When not doing the devil's work, I'm the single parent of two great young men, living playing and working in beautiful Thunder Bay Ontario. That's at the western end of Lake Superior - the North end of Highway 61. from here, you can just drive all the way to New Orleans, though I have yet to do it.

I posted a list of twenty reasons I am thankful last month on Canadian Thanksgiving, so I won't go all sentimental here.
Let me say though that I'm impressed how a one day holiday gets stretched into a five day weekend. American ingenuity at work!
Some days I feel a lot… Read full post »
Because on a Good News Sunday, everybody should have all of this:Because its NOT going overboard to want that touch So shout it out to the night "Give me what I deserve, 'cause it's my right"
and I do mean groovin'... got this one on the car radio as I drove to work...still bouncing in my seat an hour later.
Don't look in the mirror... there's no where to hide... but it's friday ...enjoy
For two separate (but overlapping?) groups of fanboys and fangirls.
I found Linda Ronstadt's version of When I Fall in Love a lovely start to my morning (even better than free online sports), but could not find a youtube of her performing it.
I did however find one of her singing… Read full post »
In case you've forgotten what time it is, it is not the end of the world as we know it, merely the end of daylight savings time for 2010. At 2 am Sunday, wake up and turn your clocks back an hour.
And when you wake up, it will be… Read full post »
and in my case, actual grooves, as in vinyl. Groovy, eh?
I read (in Time I think) that Elvis Costello has released his new record on vinyl, as well as other formats. He says that the vinyl is the "real album" - the songs not only in the order in which… Read full post »
Something to watch while waiting for the free online sports to load:Happy Halloween!
I've had one of those days where 100 little things go wrong. You know, the sort that make you wonder how many paper cuts it takes to bleed to death.
But any day I get out of alive is a good day, so now I'm relaxing, getting my groove… Read full post »
Boston Celtics had just beaten the Miami Heat 88 to 8-0, when TNT's Craig sager asked Boston's Rajon Rondo : :" Is Miami the team to beat in the east?"
Rondo: "No. We are."
Well played, Rajon! Sager was insulting the defending conference champs after their season opening victory by… Read full post »
From Richard Curtis, writer director of Love, Actually...
...something completely different. A rollicking rock and roll comedy, which stars Bill Nighy and all your favourite Brit character actors, plus Gemma Arterton AND January Jones.
Nighy in particular sparkles. His ability to say the… Read full post »

Just because I heard this song this rainy Friday as I drove to work in the dark.
Just because rain is better than snow this time of year.
Just because Roy Orbison has got "it".
just because everybody should get it.
Anything at all.
Beef stew is boring, right?
Not Chez B, where I make it differently every time. Usually, I toss in an exotic spice, like a curry or cumin, or my own version of a Moroccan spice mix, for zest.
A couple of weekends ago, we had our first taste of Fall, which… Read full post »
If you haven't read Linda's blog Whispers of Silent Messages in Bottles, please do so. It is immensely moving, and more articulate than any words I have with which to play today.
She accompanies her text and photos with a video of the late great Jim Croce singing Time in… Read full post »
NOOOO...not sex...get your mind out of the gutter.
But I'm headed out to get my beard trimmed, limited time to post, Linda Ronstadt on the turntable, I just find myself wondering whther when warren Zevon wrote this tune in 1976 , and Linda recorded it about 1978, if they had… Read full post »

Today is 10/10/10... the only such day in this year, and the only perfect 10 in this century.
For most modern humans, who operate on a decimal based system, "10" is in fact an ideal number. Ten fingers, ten toes, ten commandments.
Readers as old as me will certainly recall Bo… Read full post »
So John Lennon sang in "Across the Universe".
Yet, John DID change the world, with his music, his spirit, his kharma, his "Imagine", before, sadly, death changed his world.
I love that the silly, frothy funfiled fantastical movie made "Across the Universe" less obscure. John… Read full post »
Cindy Capitani posted an Open Call for more OS Interviews, where we answer each other's most burning questions. Ocularnervosa volunteered, even after he read my interview of Cindy. What a fool. For the month of October.
Canadian Thanksgiving. (next weekend). Garden to put to bed before winter's chilly breath.
Falling leaves. Raked into big piles. will kids no longer children still jump and play in them, rediscover joy? Might I?

The leaves, all gone now
The sun is setting early
'Tis the eve of day, of summer
Yet life twists perilous onward
Finding a path through time
As certain and even as the seasons
Yet still unsure, moving roughly
Indian summer brings false hope
Of warmth to come, undelivered
September's chill,… Read full post »
