Call Your Brother

Rate: 12 Flag

That's what mom used to say.

Today I took the time and called my brother.

We had nothing particular to say.

We talked for 71 minutes.

After hanging up, I smiled wide.

Thanks mom.

Call your brother.

I wish I could still call mine, and I am glad that you called yours.
I lost my eldest brother in a 1984 auto accident. What I would give for short chat with him today... If only...

Thank your for the comments ladies.
Thank YOU for the comments. Jeesh.
Good advice. I called mine last night because we make it a point to talk every Friday night....just to touch base and talk about our week.

I don't have a brother so I called my sister.

My brothers never keep in touch. Dysfunctional family. But I decided to call and leave messages, just because. I get no responses. One brother always screened his calls, so I would leave a message, wait to see if he would pick up and then leave my hello. Got a phone call two weeks ago, from one brother I haven't heard from for 15 years..."our brother was found dead in his home". Sadly, the last phone call he got was mine, so he heard me say I loved him. He lived as a recluse, and was dead for 3 days before found. I AM SO GLAD I CHOSE TO CALL EACH TIME I DID. No regrets on my end. Thanks for the reminder that we must all care, in our own way, even if there is no response.
Hmmm. Good advice. I need to call one (or both) of mine.
I have a brother who lives fifty miles from me and I haven't seen or heard from him for thirty years. Another brother I only see at funerals. What can you do, They're ...,
I wish I had a brother to call, but I'm glad you called yours and ended up smiling.
I spoke to my brother twice this week, and made a plan to see him in Dec.! (He lives on the opposite coast.) Good advice.
and did you then yell to your brother?
and did your mom then say, "i could have done that"?
and then did you think or say, 'well, why didn't you then?'
ha, i love the universal stuff.
Called my brother after reading this, and he called me back this morning. We talked about nothing and everything for about forty minutes. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks for the comments friends. I'm so happy to see that some connections were made.. :))
oh, sweetheart, how lovely. wow. i'm estranged from both brothers for ugly and complicated reasons. i see them often in my dreams and in my memories and i miss them. it's so lovely to hear about a sister and brother shooting the shit for 71 minutes and feeling great about it. love love lvoe and gratitude. i'm searching for just the fun posts today, since i'm in the dark place, and yours is a gem!!
Thanks Teddy. I hope you're feeling better.
Brie -- I loved reading this -- read LOVED!! I call my brother as oftend as I can now. For years, we were not exactly estranged -- more like "stranged", if there is such a word. We just saw red when we saw each other. Only within the past few years, as time has aged us, have we begun to appreciate each other's gifts rather than picking at each other's frailties.

Good for you. Good for your mom. Good for me, too.
Thanks for your post!
Thanks so much Gigi.. I'm glad you enjoyed this. The older I get, the more I realize what a wise woman my mother was. :)
Brie...our families' have a way of bringing out the best or the worst in us...your thoughts made me smile.
It's so easy to make you smile. That's why you're special. :)
My god - 71 minutes! My brother would be lucky to last for 5 minutes - and even those would be painful!

My sister and I can manage a bit more time.

Your avatar photo is priceless! I think we need a back story with a bigger photograph.
Thank you Hope. :)

Beth, The avatar photo is a pic of my youngest son back stage during an elementary school musical production. It's so damn cute, that I had to use it... It ALWAYS makes me smile. (He'll be 16 next month, and he's still and always will be a bright star in my life)
