For all of us who grew up in the 80's, John Hughes was the director/writer who had his pulse on the adolescents and young adults in America. We all somehow could find a character or two to relate to while growing up. The unrequited loves, crushes, heartbreak of not fitting in and other pitfalls of adolescence. He was the iconic director/writer of box office hits (and a couple of misses). He made the careers of Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and others who would be labeled 'the Brat Pack'.
Ally Sheedy's character in 'The Breakfast Club' was the one I definitely could relate to-the misfit, the outcast, the one who never quite fit in. I pretty much kept to myself, except for a few friends. I always enjoyed his movies, even some of his later ones like 'She's Having a Baby', ' 'Some Kind of Wonderful', which he wrote and Howard Deutch directed.
Hughes later retired from the business to work on his farm in rural Illinois. R.I.P. John Hughes.
