Firsts...Open Call Participation

Rate: 22 Flag

Who was your FIRST prom date? That would be someone I don’t remember the name of, however you can see how utterly delighted I was.

First Prom

Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him? Michael Manhood.  I kid you not.  He was in Athens, Greece and when we left on Christmas Day 1957, he stopped by the Carleton Hotel, where we stayed before our ship sailed, to say goodbye and give me a corsage.  Never heard from him again.

What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?  Probably the night I got very drunk on screwdrivers, unless you count a sip of my dad’s beer.  I was 14.

What was your FIRST job? Babysitting for $.25 an hour.  My first real paycheck job was at a bakery for $1.05 an hour and all the pastry you could eat.

What was your FIRST car?  A brown Ford Americana.

Fist car

Who was the FIRST person to text you today?  Nobody, still waiting.  Hah!

Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?  My mother.  I miss her.

Who was your FIRST grade teacher? Mrs. Breesocker in Belleville, Illinois.  She did not keep secrets too well.  I told her my mother was going to have a baby...she congratulated my mom when she saw her.  I got in so much trouble!

When and where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?  I believe it would have been in 1950, from Tachikawa, Japan to San Antonio, Texas.

Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk? My first best friend was my brother Barry, and yes, we do.

Where was your FIRST sleepover? That would have been with my grandfather Smackleface and his third wife.

Who was the FIRST person you talked to today? “No you may not.”  To a telephone solicitor asking to speak with me at 7 a.m.

Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time? My friend Anne Payne in Oakland, CA, I was her matron of honor.

What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?  Let my dogs outside.

n & F

What was the FIRST concert you ever went to? To see Roy Orbison in 1963 in Albuquerque, N.M., (but earlier I remembered Feb. 1968 Janis Joplin at the Fillmore, SF., so had written it first.  Sorry for the error in timing.)

FIRST tattoo?  None.  Plenty of scars which have interesting stories though.

FIRST piercing? My ears, self-pierced in 1965.

FIRST foreign country you've been to? I was born in Japan, but first foreign country after that was Greece.

FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater? Lawrence of Arabia in a base theater in Albuquerque, NM

FIRST Detention you had? Oh that’s easy, the only one I had was in Hawaii.  We had just moved there and I had one suitcase of clothing.  I wore a skort and “shorts” were not allowed, so I got a ticket and had to go to a kangaroo court, where they showed me no mercy.  (Unless you count the episode of the drunk girl at school where I was suspended.)

What was the FIRST state you lived in? Texas.

If you had three wishes, what would the FIRST one be? As Cher put it, “If I could turn back time...”

What is the FIRST thing you would learn if you had the chance?  How to play an instrument, the piano.

Okay, I'm severely impressed that you saw Janis Joplin. And your mother is absolutely beautiful. Do you want me to text you?
Seeing Janis... again you make nostalgic... you know she was always asking me, "Didn't I make you feel..."
Joplin at the Fillmore? Wow.
Quite a list of firsts there BuffyW. Which is why I never miss your blog.
You're always full of surprises Sheila!
Oh, yeah, I'da been kicked right back home for wearing a skort, too. Because LADIES don't wear fabric between their legs! :-)
"Michael Manhood." Only Buffy would find a guy with a name like that. Only Buffy :-)
Michael Manhood!!!! Where do these names come from? I had a Lt. in the Army named Rasberry ... but Manhood?

Did you see Lawrence of Arabia ... or date him?

Youse kid, youse : >{) ha, ha, ha! ju make me smile.
The piano? I love you!!!
Michael Manhood?! How did the guy introduce himself with a straight face, how did his teachers do roll call without cracking up?

Great post as usual Buffy. It's obvious where you get your great looks from, your mom was a stunner.
I saw Joplin the same year here in Vancouver. We have good musical taste! Love all your memories.
These are very cool firsts!
These are awesome, Buffy. Kinda makes me wish I had your life. But then again....
A really interesting list. You are gorgeous. Your mother was gorgeous. Your dogs are WAY cute.
Buffy - I grew up in Belleville, Illinois!!!!

I loved this meme, and appreciate the opportunity you've given me to know you better. When I read who you thought of first this morning, my heart was startled into warm sympathy for you.
Your mom was gorgeous!
Cool car! Cute dogs. Man Kangaroo court is rough!
Quite impressive firsts . . . all the way around.
Your firsts are much more interesting than mine!

Great blog.
Seeing Roy for your first concert, how lucky!
Great list. You never cease to amaze.
Hey girl, at least you were stylin' for prom. (but, of course) I so want to read a "scars" post. Pretty please? You show me yours and I'll show you mine? ;0)
You are quite simply fascinating and fab...

It figures your first love was Michael Manhood. Mine was Michael Has a Little Trouble with His Manhood if you know what I mean.
Quite a list there, Janis? whoah baby, one upped me again;).

Southern Illinois strikes again. For a place no one ever heard of there sure are a lot of people who could trace their roots here.
It's funny how pregnancy used to be whispered about and that you should get in trouble for sharing what we now rejoice with everyone in the world via facebook and twitter! Like your mom didn't want anyone to know she had sex....
Roy Orbison and Janis? Jealous beyond anything. Great list!
Roy Orbison AND Janis Jopin? You were so much cooler than me!
I'm certain you still are. Great firsts and such an interesting childhood. All that traveling...
I miss my mom too. Funny, she's the first person I think about many mornings also.

Joplin at the Fillmore. . .I am in awe. . . .
