Reciprocal Adoption...Who's Your Daddy Today?

Rate: 0 Flag

With the increasing normalization of same-sex marriage the last outstanding practical, as opposed to moral, objection to this development remains unanswered, to wit, the idea that the benefits of marriage, such as pensions, insurance coverage, etc., are being unfairly granted to such unions when other mutually dependent relationships between adults are not being thus recognized and rewarded by society. So the relationship of 'best friends', for eg., where two cohabitating adults, male or female, biologically related or not, and not sexually involved with each other but nevertheless sharing the household responsibilities, expenses, etc., is not presently acknowledged by society...and there have even been movie comedies exploiting the idea of friends feigning gay marriage to fool the authorities as a means for obtaining the financial privileges of marriage by otherwise straight people.

Now there is a solution to this moral and social policy dilemma. There is a just launched movement for 'reciprocal adoption' where two room mates agree to adopt each other and alternate the role of 'parent' from one day to the next. Say 'Biff' and 'Bozo' are sharing living arrangements. To qualify under the proposed legal standards of 'reciprocal adoption', one day Biff is the Dad, lecturing Bozo, giving him an allowance, spanking him if need be, giving permission for surgery at the hospital, etc., and the next day the roles reverse. Now, you might ask, 'How is this possible?' How could our society's school, medical, insurance, pension, government, etc., records be kept straight enough to keep track of which particular days Biff is the daddy and which days Bozo is? Well, if the modernization of the nation's health records management system through computerization, as in the Obama health reform plan, can save billions of dollars in the medical system over a short time, why couldn't a similar across the board system be instituted for 'reciprocal adoption?'

And with the increasing incidence of America's least-acknowledged societal aberration or innovation, the infantilism paraphilia, societal recognition may be just the kind of validation infantilists are waiting for, just like the late 60s Stonewall riots catalyzed gay consciousness.

In our example our hypothetical infantilist couple, Biff and Bozo, would take turns on alternate days being bottle-fed (if no lactating mammaries were to be made available by any lactation fetishists in their particular neighbourhood), burped, having their diapies changed, being taken out in the stroller, having their cheeks pinched by the nosy neighbour, etc. All the incidentals of any ordinary hetero or homosexual couple having a baby...and Biff and Bozo wouldn't have to pretend to sodomize each other to qualify for all the economic goodies.

Also, as a decided plus in our scientistic society, this kind of arrangement duplicates a phenomenon known as resonance in chemistry. Chemistry, whether for molecules or people, determines the nature of bonding. In nature, the covalent bond forms between appropriate different, or like, atoms in a molecule. Picture 6 carbon atoms forming a ring, like 6 children holding hands in a circle in a game of 'ring around the posie.' The carbons make up the backbone of what's known as a phenol molecule in this example. Each carbon atom is linked to its neighbouring carbon with one double bond to one side, say the left side, and a single bond to the other carbon, on the right side in this example. But if you look at a reflection of this arrangement in a mirror, then 'left' is changed to 'right', just like your left hand appears to be your right hand in a mirror. So now there are two possible arrangements where the single and double covalent bonds have exchanged places, just like your right hand has become your left hand in the mirror. Chemists like to explain this situation with the concept of 'resonance' where the single and double bonds exchange places with each other at the speed of light (or the speed of Mrs. Obama's hairstyles)...thereby the molecule resonates between alternate but equal states so that the end result is that chemists say that each carbon atom is bonded to its neighbour with a bond value of 1.5, or 1 and1/2, a perfectly intermediate value.

The choice of 6 carbon atoms may have been jumping the gun a bit, since multi-partner arrangements, even sexual ones, are still 'over the horizon' as a valid alternative to the accepted homo or hetero dyad standard in our society. But the same principle is applicable to two-atom configurations and the concept of resonance, if legally enshrined, as the concept of guardianship is becoming enshrined in the progressive animal rights stewardship movement, can make it possible for the budding infantilist movement to obtain a voice and legitimacy long denied it. And the scientific metaphor of resonance as a basis for that empowerment, with our society's worship of science as a new magic based on the fundamental relevancy of chemistry, as one example, to the necessities of modern life, from hosiery to sexual lubricants, should smooth the process of formal legal codification by the state and federal governments.

Since a growing number of our most valued youth are now adopting the model of infantilism in any case, our roles as parents should be a progressive one, clearing the underbrush of calcified puritanical prejudice, and making it possible for a newly evolved mode of being to take a firm root in our social fabric. If our sons and daughters want to alternate betwen the role of parent and child on a 24-hour cycle, like the flora in our gardens or aquariums, in order to milk the system of its financial benefits, then we should remember The Day of the Triffids, a prescient sci-fi movie of the 1950s that envisioned the take-over of the world by plants, and that has paved the way for this awakening. Thus an evolved mode of relating will have been normalized with the imprimatur of Science behind it to the satisfaction of all concerned.
