Brian's 75 .... yippee, another list for this Virgo!

Rate: 2 Flag
    1. Why do you live where you live? I've been living in TO for 23 years now, when I moved here with my family at 16.  Both hubby and I own our own businesses here and have no desire to move elsewhere.  I moved so many times as a child and refuse to do the same for my kids -- I want them to feel safe and rooted.
    2. What do you love about it?  I'm a big city girl, and Toronto's just the perfect size for me without being ridiculous.  And umm...the food.  Colour me multicultural in my food preferences :)
    3. Would you ever want to live anywhere else? I'm not saying no to the south of France or Hawaii, if it's on someone else's dime.  Seriously, I think I'm staying put unless we move to Montreal or something.  I'm east coast, all the way.
    4. When you move, do you unpack everything immediately, or do you still have boxes unpacked years later?  Right away.  I do the same in hotel rooms, even if it's just a quick overnight stay. I *need* to have everything in its place.
    5. Do you have a great good or bad room mate story?  When I first moved out at 18, I moved into a house with 5 gay men.  That was the most fun I'd ever had in my life up until that point.  Great, great memories.
    6. Have you ever found true love? Oh yes!
    7. Did it find you? Most assuredly.  It was the proverbial "hit you on the nose when you're not looking for it" kind of love, and it rocked me to my core.
    8. Did you lose each other again? been together 15 years, no gaps.
    9. How old were you when you had your first date?  I'm thinking 14, with my first "real" boyfriend, Joe.
    10. How did that go? Well, the relationship itself lasted only a few months, and I seem to recall it was to a school dance.  I went to the all-girls Catholic highschool and he attended the all-boys one across the street.  I  remember slow-dancing to Foreigner and that he was a big Bowie fan AND a D&D geek.
    11. Do you believe in love at first sight?  I believe in lust at first sight, and a recognition of the POTENTIAL for love.
    12. What is your most embarassing school age memory? Yikes, do I need to go there?  It involves some nasty bullying in grade 5 and the substitution of Ex-lax for chocolate. :(
    13. What is your earliest memory?  Of falling into the ditch at the front of our home and being pricked with thorns.  I think I would have been 3-4.
    14. How old were you when you earned to read?  3, and became a prolific reader very early.  My mom tells of me being brought into the VP's office in grade 1 because I was reading at a grade 5 level and my poor newbie teacher had no clue what to do with me.
    15. What do you like to read now? Almost exclusively fiction, with a small dappling of poetry occasionally.  I also read everything both my kids are reading, so I've recently "enjoyed" not only the entire "Twilight" series  but also the "The Day My Butt Went Psycho/Zombie Butts from Uranus" books.
    16. Have you written a book? not since I was 12
    17. Do you secretly long to? sure
    18. What movies do you love/hate?  I'm a fairly easygoing movie watcher who will go with the flow and cheerfly suspend disbelief when necessary.  I don't get hung up with continuity errors or Deux Ex Machina devices -- I'm all about the entertainment value.  As long as I'm not being bored, it's all good.    That said, I loathe westerns, martial arts and slasher films.
    19. Are you a TV watcher?  I don't have cable, so I only get the CBC with our rabbit ears.  The few shows I do watch (House, Lost) I just watch online
    20. If so, what fascinates you on that screen?  Mm, not much.
    21. What music warms your soul? Most everything but rap & country.  I worked at HMV for 4 years and my ears were openned.
    22. Do you like thunder and lightening? Love all elementals
    23. Do you like the rain? oh yes
    24. Where is the best place you have travelled?  Isn't that a tricky question?  I think Venice resonated the deepest.
    25. Do you have a great travel experience to share?  Will need to be a blog post one day...
    26. A great road trip story?   Well, there was the time my ex and I drove into Vermont to go camping for a week, and I realized we'd just crossed the border with 2 tabs of acid.  Couldn't find me a bathroom quick enough!
    27. Where do you hope to travel, and why?  a wine tour of the south of France and Italy
    28. Have you ever been to Las Vegas? nope
    29. Whether you've been or not, what do you think about Las Vegas?  I try not to think about it
    30. Whats the greatest vacation experience you have had?  It might sound silly, but probably it was our Panama Canal cruise as a family 2 years ago.  I have never, ever had so much fun with the hubby and kids as during those 9 days.  Truly fabulous
    31. What relatives shaped your life and why?  My parents and I try not to dwell on it much.
    32. Do you know how your parents met ?  Yes, my mother worked as a secretary at my dad's office.  She was 21 and he was 23 when they married.  They were completely ill-suited for one another yet stayed married 25 years before divorcing.  It's nice to see them both in happy healthy relationships now.
    33. How did you get your name?  Caroline was from an aunt on one side, and my scary middle name (think "Archie Bunker") was from a great aunt on the other side.
    34. How did you meet your significant other?  see here
    35.  If you have children, how did their birth affect you? most profoundly changed me, enabled me to learn to be present.  Felt the recipient of unconditional love for the first time in my life, something I never experienced as a child.
    36. How did you select your children's names?  Serena's name came to me in a dream when 8.5 months pregnant, Morgan was named after I "met" him in-utero about 4 months in.
    37. Do you wish you had more children?  no no, we're done.  Baby factory is closed
    38. Less children?  nope
    39. Do you love pets?  Yes, and have 2 elderly cats who've been with us forever.
    40. Do you love art?  Oh yes
    41. What sort?  Anything that moves me
    42. Are you artistic?  Yes, my full-time job is as a card-maker, scrapbooking instructor and have my own studio
    43. Do you wish you were artistic? see above
    44. What about photography?  love it, suck at it
    45. Do you love architecture?  very much
    46. Do you like to cook?  yes, I'm a kitchen witch
    47. If so, do you follow recipes?  yes and no.  For baking, yes, since that's more chemistry then anything else.
    48. Are you a carnivore, a vegan, a vegetarian?  carnivore
    49. What is your Myers Briggs typology?  dunno
    50. What are you doing for the Earth?  living intentionally & working to minimize my negative impact
    51. What are you doing about the suffering of others?  helping instill a desire for compassion and empathy in my children
    52. What habit do you wish you could quit?  living in ProcrastiNation
    53. How and when (if ever) did you first smoke?  toked a bit in the early years, that's it
    54. Do you still smoke?   nope
    55. How did you quit?  wasn't an issue
    56. Do you still sneak a puff? na
    57. Wine, spirits, beer or none?  lotsa wine & occasionally mixed drinks
    58. Do you find it comfortable to drink or smoke in front of you parents?  I drink with them, sure
    59. In front of your children?  moderate drinking,  yes
    60. Do you have a religion?  I'm pagan
    61. What is your view of religion generally? Whatever floats your boat
    62. What is your opinion on monogamy/polygamy/polyamory?  I'm of the view that the only requirement for personal relationships be that it includes consenting adults.  If you're happy, and he/she/they are happy, then so am I.  Am personally in a monogamous, married relationship.
    63. What is your view of abstinence only education?  ridiculous.  Fear-based sex teaching makes no sense to me
    64. Does what you do for a living have anything to do with what you studied?  Nope
    65. Should education always be aimed at employment?  Always?  No.  But I am astonished by the lack of general practicality and life-skills that high school students seem to graduate with.
    66. If you could do it all again, what did you not study that you wish you had?  Nothing earth-shattering, but would love to take photography lessons.
    67. What are you doing about that?  I'll get around to it.
    68. Do you plan to retire?  I'm not sure about that, I seem to have my fingers in so many pies that I can only really contemplate a general slow down rather than a complete cessation.  My work brings me too much happiness!
    69. What will you do in your retirement?  curl up with more books & take up gardening.  Hopefully be a good grandmother, the kind my kids don't have.
    70. Are you a romantic, a cynic or both?    75/25
    71. Do you like to cry?  at the drop of a hat, embarasses my kids!
    72. Do you like to laugh?  Big belly laughs.  Plus, I snort like a pig.  That too embarrasses them.
    73. Do you do it enough?   loads :)
    74. What motto/creed/belief/mantra gets you through the day?   Strive for authenticity, live in the present
    75. What secret would you most like to share with your OS brethern and sisters? It's okay...we're all family here, even Uncle Squirrel, wherever he's hibernating.

I don't think my secrets are particularily interesting, so I'll ponder this a bit first.
