Gratitude

Rate: 9 Flag

For my granny

That I belonged to you and you to me, for all the things you told me and everything you didn’t, for all the nights you watched the traffic while I made mistakes and friends who know your name today, for all those guys you so graciously met and for the quiet pride I saw on your face when I finally made my choice. You knew before I did that he would call me bella with his eyes closed. For this sensation that my heart is actually breaking under two pressed palms, under the tears we all cry, nearly out of embarrassment at our luck that you were ours and that you loved us.

Some things bring us to our knees in the epiphanies of grief and gratitude, of joy and pain. What you've written is brief, but it is overflowing and cannot be contained by the mere words of it.
Thanks, Barry and Jeanette.
I'll be proud if I turn out to be half the woman she was.
i don't think i've ever read a better tribute than this. *extraordinary* writing, every word.
This is one of the most beautiful and poetic tributes I have ever read.
R++++
catch:. "nearly out of embarrassment at our luck that you were ours and that you loved us." Beautiful tribute. Take Care, I'll be thinking of you.
catch, this is beautiful. Stunning. Few are your words but immense is the love and appreciation they convey. Your granny sounds like she was a very special lady indeed and, you, her family, very blessed.

My love and prayers at this sad time.

Kate

Thanks, D.
It shoulda been a poem but I couldn't get it out any other way.
Grief is like that. I grieve with love and gentle mercy
and also gratitude for the character my
parents instilled in me: theirs...

Dig it all, especially, "while I made mistakes and friends who know your name today..."
