Scotty Lago Leaves Olympics After Inappropriate Pictures

Rate: 5 Flag
Scotty Lago is an American snowboarder and a bronze medal winner in the halfpipe competition.  He has left the Olympic venue after a couple of somewhat inappropriate pictures were posted online:

"...  Lago, who was awarded his bronze medal Thursday night, was at a party, wearing a Team USA T-shirt when somebody snapped a photo of a woman kneeling below Lago's waist to kiss his medal. That picture, and another showing him sticking the medal in the woman's mouth while teammate Greg Bretz looks on, appeared Friday on the TMZ Web site.

Lago apologized to officials at the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and decided to go home."

As American swimmer Michael Phelps will attest, there are cameras everywhere.  Apparently, Scotty Lago did not grasp that, in the cell-phone-camera age, questionable public moments may be recorded and posted online.  It appears that no official sanctions will be taken against Lago.  However, it is a reminder that perception matters and dubious moments are preserved forever online.

Ah, the ignorance of youth. While everyone is potential fodder for cell phone pics and, gasp, blogs (!) the reality is that the youth of this country (and, I suppose, all over) still have not come to grips with the fact that their actions are not just singular events, and that they can be preserved forever. It is the same argument I use with my kids and anyone else under 25; don't put it on Facebook, MySpace, etc. unless you will be proud of it in 20 years; because otherwise, it will haunt you then. But for every Scotty Lago, odds are that there are a half-dozen high school girls who, at this very moment, are texting nude pictures of themselves to their boyfriends. They, also, will learn the hard way.
They need to lighten up. You send kids out to do the work of Olympians and they de-stress with a little bawdy humour. It's not like the girls looks unwilling. It was all in fun. PUH-LEEEZE. R.
They are not really that bad, are they?
