There is an upheaval at the University of Georgia, in the athletic department. Damon Evans, who was the Athletic Director, has tendered his resignation. That resignation was accepted by the President of the University, Michael Adams, who issued the following statement:
"Yesterday, July 4, 2010, University of Georgia Athletics Director Damon Evans submitted his resignation, which I have accepted. As I said on Thursday morning when I first of the situation, this is not an example of the kind of leadership that I expect our senior administrators to set..."
On Wednesday, June 30/2010, Damon Evans was arrested on a DUI (driving under the influence) charge. Also arrested with Evans, who is a married father of two children, was Courtney Fuhrmann. She was charged with disorderly conduct. Ms Fuhrmann is not Evans' wife. Further complicating the situation is that the police report that Evans was allegedly in possession of a pair of woman's undergarments.
The irony of this unfortunate circumstance is that, while acting as the athletic director, Damon Evans made safe driving a focal point. He made Public Service Announcements that highlighted driving safety and DUI prevention.
