Customizing Your Open Salon Space

Rate: 19 Flag

Since you are on this page, I will use this Open Salon space as an illustration. In the left hand column, I have customized the My Link section. I have added three additional section headings:

Three Personal Articles

Some Articles About Dogs

Other Online Posting Locations

Under those headings, I have links that take the reader to articles that I have listed. Yes, it is shameless self promotion but it will not disturb your Open Salon internal mail box. It is just a feature that lists some previous articles and other locations. Some people, for example, have asked if I have posted other dog articles. This presents a list of some recent postings.

These additions were easy to do. You will be able to name the lists, as you want. I followed the instructions of Sonya Unrein in her article:  Adding links to your OS blog . She gives a wonderful presentation of how to add these sections, in a step-by-step manner and with illustrations. The Open Salon article was posted on October 28, 2008 and may seem dated, in terms of internet time. However, I followed Sonya's instructions today and all her clearly presented comments are still valid.

I will augment her suggestions with one small addition. Step #4 in Sonya's instructions is very important. The list must be named before creating another list. The program code will not allow the creation of additional lists without the previous list having been named.

These and other hints are found under the author tag: "os user manual". I didn't know that this category and an Open Salon archive of help articles existed, until bbd (Barry) informed me. I will tag this present article with "os user manual" and a click on that tag will take you to other free 'how to' articles that might prove helpful.

I love Sonya Unrein, an extraordinary talent, and one of my early friends/favorites here on OS. She is the über book designer, and has some of the best designed books, both covers and layouts, I've ever seen. No wonder she is proficient as an elite digerati as well. I love that people are still adding to the corpus of the "os user manual" as well.
Great tips. Thanks for the info. Rated.
Yes!!!! I've been wanting to configure my links. I will sit down with these posts and work it out in the next few days. Thanks so much Catherine.
I'll bookmark this for when I write more. I'm a reader now. I'll contribute more when school eases up and I can see an end to writing these papers.
Happy Halloween. It's good to see an old post brought back from the OS graveyard. My old username was undertow, but I decided to merge all my online identities to my true self.

bbd, you are one of my all-time favorite people, here or anywhere.
I customized my OS Space with some nice shag carpeting.

Thanks for this and the intro to Sonya's work - I hadn't heard of her.
Very cool. Thanks for this extremely useful information!
where have you been all of our OS lives!

We are free from being ooompah loopahs!
Catherine, you are a wonderful OS coach. Thanks for the introduction to Sonya. "Shameless self promotion" is essential, isn't it? I think it was Trig Palin who said a day or two ago that if we don't promote, we might as well just keep a diary in a drawer, or words to that effect. I agree with him.
I really appreciate this series of posts you are doing about how to Help us OS Dummies (well, it might be just me) and also I love shameless self-promotion.
Thanks, Catherine. Good stuff.
You are so helpful. Thank you for all your help making OS easier and more fun.
