There are lots of different points of view over the wars we are in now. No matter what side you are on, I hope you believe that our men and women who are fighting are doing what their country is asking of them. They, along with their families and friends, are having to put up with lots of different physical and emotional problems on their return.
Marcus Luttrell is a retired US Navy Seal. He and the other 3 brave men in his squad were sent out into Afghanistan's Hindu-Kush mountain region to find a Taliban leader and gather information on their movements. They were spotted by some of the local villagers. Instead of doing anything to them they let them go. This proved to be a big mistake as it lead to the worse night in Seal history. The locals tipped off the Taliban and the Seal team was attacked by over 100 Taliban fighters. Marcus was the lone survivor.
According to the Defense Department Marcus was dehydrated, with a bullet wound to one leg, shrapnel embedded in both legs, and had three vertebrae cracked. He was too weak to make contact with the rescue helicopters that were sent to search for the team and he traveled 7 miles on foot to reach a village where he was helped.
When Marcus returned he was given a yellow lab puppy as a therapy dog. He named her DASY which is an acronym for his Seal team. They were Danny, Axe, “Southern Boy” (Marcus) and Yankee. Dasy was shot by men out “joy riding” killing dogs.
Marcus heard the shots. After checking on his mother he made his way out of the house, down the tree line, under a fence, and over a ditch. He said he could see where she was shot with a .357. There were drag marks where she tried to get away before dying.
Marcus, at 25 yards, had the men in his sights when they got back into their car. Instead of shooting them he jumped into his truck and at speeds of over 100 MPH chased the men across 3 Texas counties while on the phone with 911. He was so well trained that at those speeds, after seeing his dead dog, his voice had an strange calm about it.
Two of the men were charged with cruelty to animals. It's a felony in Texas. Hopefully they will get the max.
RIP Dasy.
The 911 call.
