I have a gripe with singers who make performing our national anthem into a bid for America's Got Talent or American Idol. Every time my hubby and I watch a sporting event, I turn to him and say, "I hope they don't ruin The Star Spangled Banner this time." Enough with the vocal histrionics, the "woh-woh-wohing," already. Just sing our national anthem simply, the way it was written, and try and remember the words, please.
And, spectators, please put your right hand over your heart or at least stand quietly and respectfully. It's not all about you.
