Single-Payer: One State at a Time

Rate: 2 Flag

I am so pleased today! Yesterday I received an email with this subject line: "Urgent: Support Kucinich Single-Payer Amendment Today" from Democrats.com.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich proposed a crucial amendment today for single-payer healthcare and we urgently need you to call one or more of the 12 Democrats on the House Education and Labor Subcommittee. Our message is simple:

Please support Rep. Kucinich's Amendment today in the HELP Subcommittee to allow states to create single-payer healthcare systems. The federal government should give states the freedom to fix our health care crisis.

The email included names and phone numbers for all the members of the subcommittee, so I proceeded to email each and everyone.

Democrats.com bills themselves as the "aggressive progressives" and now I have to believe them because I just got an email from other local activists in my community and good news: "House Lets States Do Single-Payer Healthcare!"

One of the organizations which has been very vocal has been FAIR. Today Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting forwarded a video (7.17.09) in which "The doctor who served as Obama's personal physician for 22 years speaks out about how ABC disinvited him from their healthcare forum two days before the prime-time event where he was planning to ask about single-payer healthcare.

Watch the video and add your name
to FAIR's petition demanding that the networks include single-payer in the healthcare debate..."

Congrats to my favorite politician Dennis Kucinich and all the activist who have worked so hard to get this option into the healthcare reform bill!

Thanks to Dennis Kucinich for never backing down! What would we do without his voice in the House? The only one around who has the balls to stand up for all of us in this health care miasma created by corporate greed mongers. Many progressive groups got the word out so we could put pressure to bear.
The man is right single payer is the best system...However the rich corporations..............................................
