Open Call - Raise Your Voices and Denounce an Injustice
I posted an article yesterday (And Justice for All) about the continuing imprisionment of Leonard Peltier despite calls for his release from the likes of Bishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
It's gotten a few responses, but not enough. I know how strong the people here at OS are, and h… Read full post »
And Justice for All - In the Spirit of Crazy Horse
When I wrote this several years ago, I had no idea that this injustice would still be continuing with no end in sight these many years later. Read it please. Do whatever you can to make it stop. Even little rocks will eventually add up to a mountain. Thanks for taking… Read full post »
Inspired by Others, I Decide to be Brave
As I was reading all the other letters to seventeen-year-olds, I was loving the insight into what shaped each person, and when a picture was included it took me immediately back to that time: we were young, naive, convinced we were invincible, and still had so very much to learn.
Anyway,… Read full post »
Top Secret & Confidential: Dear Me
Hey girl, I'm a little worried about you. You're just so....angry, all the time, filled with a rage, almost, that stays bottled up inside you only to erupt at some unknown moment, and directed at someone who usually doesn't deserve even a tenth of it.
I realize the move from… Read full post »
A Thousand Apologies, and a Thousand More
Does anyone remember me? I wouldn't blame you if you didn't. I sort of pulled what my grown daughter calls one of my "disappearing acts" there for awhile. In my defense, weak as it is, I had to reconnect with that thing called being a grown-up.
I don't like it. … Read full post »
Oh, those wacky birther kids...
Why should they have all the fun, with their Kenyan birth certificates, and conspiracy theories?
We deserve fun, too! Now you can have your very own Kenyan birth certificate! Just fill in the personal details of your choosing, and you're officially Kenyan!
But wait, there's more! &n… Read full post »
Make New Friends, but Keep the Old

After I posted my "firsts" in response to the open call yesterday, I reread it, and began to wonder where Michele was (first sleepover, I was deeply in love with her older brother before I hit puberty), and how she was doing.
I was sitting here at my computer,… Read full post »
Firsts (0pen call)
1. Who was your FIRST prom date?
I didn't go - not sure why now, but it wasn't important in the stoner world I existed in at the time.
2. Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him/her?
Leto. *sigh* I haven't… Read full post »
Of Mice and Men
I don't understand jealousy in relationships. I honestly don't.
I'm not sure if I have a very healthy dose of self-esteem, or if I'm just not wired to feel the tug of the old green-eyed monster. Either way, I've never been jealous, not even the tiniest little bit, in any of… Read full post »
What did I used to look forward to?
*pay no real attention to this rambling mess. It's been one of those days, and I feel dull and boring.*
Today was pretty much a typical summer Thursday: I did so many loads of laundry that my hands permanently smell like fabric softener, did the dishes, went grocery shopping, filled… Read full post »
Foodie Tuesday - White Chocolate Banana Bread

This is a borrowed recipe I sorta tweaked so that we liked it better. Enjoy!
Ingredients
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
2 tubes refrigerated biscuits - the flaky kind so they can be

When Does School Start Again?
I feel like such a shit.
Please let me explain.
For whatever reason, maybe the pool, the trampoline, or the overabundant video games, my house seems to have become the cool hangout place for kids under the age of twelve.
I have one in that age group. He's a gregarious child;… Read full post »

True Blood Surprise!
Contrary to previous reports, Lafayette lives on!
I almost stood up and cheered when I saw that Lafayette wasn't dead, but that weird gear/wheel thingie has me stumped.
Oh, well...I'm just glad that my favorite character has made it to the next season. The landscape is much richer for hav… Read full post »

Raw Adventure
Last night we made the trek to Birmingham to watch Monday Night Raw live there at the BJCC. I must admit, right up front, that I wasn't enthused at all about driving an hour and a half to go watch wrestling, but my youngest is a huge fan, so I went… Read full post »
Sympathy Food
My elderly neighbor died Saturday night.
I didn't know him or his wife well at all, even though they've been my next door neighbors ever since we moved into this house three years ago. They are quiet people, but they always waved at me as I left taking my son to… Read full post »

Then I Went North
Yesterday I posted my first piece in answer to a writing challenge (I Went South). This is the second, although I cheated a bit - I never actually made it to the snowy forest. I hope you enjoy it.

I Went South
This was something I wrote in answer to a writing challenge issued at an author's forum I sometimes frequent - sort of an experiment. This was the challenge:
You are at a crossroad. Each direction will take you to a
different place.
North will take you through a snowy forest
South… Read full post »
Lori Drew to be Sentenced Today

Remember Megan Meier? She was the 13-year-old that was bullied so badly that she ended up hanging herself in her closet. What makes it such an unimaginably horrible case to me is that it wasn't just her peers that were doing the cyber bullying - they had a… Read full post »
Mama had a Meltdown - UPDATE
The cops just left. They measured the skidmarks her car left, and estimated her speed at between 40 and 50 mph, so she's been charged with Reckless Driving (20 mph over the speed limit). That'll lose her license for her for at least 90 days, or more, depending how pissed off… Read full post »
