Bio
Mother/Leader/Herder and Main Cheerleader of a truly diversified brood. My daughter is Creek/Choctaw/African-American/White/...One son is Cherokee/Choctaw/White, and the youngest son, though blond(?) is like me: Choctaw/White, with a little bit of Black Irish thrown in for seasoning. I love them all, colorful as they are. That's not counting the Pitbull and the German Shepherd - I swear, they're smarter than my kids.

Raw Adventure

Rate: 6 Flag

Last night we made the trek to Birmingham to watch Monday Night Raw live there at the BJCC.  I must admit, right up front, that I wasn't enthused at all about driving an hour and a half to go watch wrestling, but my youngest is a huge fan, so I went because he wanted to go.

Yes, I realize most of it is staged, but the prospect of watching really well-built guys in teeny-tiny outfits wasn't that heinous, so I decided if we were going to go, I was going to have fun, whether I wanted to or not.

We had so much damn fun that I just now crawled out of bed, and my throat is sore from screaming. The youngest hasn't even moved yet.  In fact, I don't think he's moved since I carried him in, asleep, from the car last night.

For years I made fun of people that watched "wrastlin" on tv, calling it a soap opera for guys...and it is, I suppose, but what I really underestimated was that watching it on tv doesn't even come close to what it's like seeing it live.

I didn't see a single empty seat in the arena.  They were calling it a capacity crowd, so I'm thinking that's pretty damn close to "sold out."  For those of you who have never been to the BJCC, it's probably one of the largest indoor arenas in the south, and a crowd that large makes one hell of a noise.  It was impossible for me not to join in, especially when my son was having so much fun screaming and jumping up and down next to me.  And...there's hot guys in tight clothes on stage.

There's tremendously loud, tremendously bright fireworks.  You can feel the beat of the music through your seat, and I found myself standing up and screaming with the rest of the crowd, and enjoying every damn minute of it.

Jeff Hardy was there, and he's what they call a "high flyer."  If you've never seen him perform, watch just a few minutes sometime when  you get a chance (for a taste, this video is great - cool music, too).  I know it's called wrestling, but the man is a pure entertainer, leaping and twisting impossibly high off the ropes, stamping on the ring, clapping his hands, working the crowd to get louder and louder.

There were others there whose names will be recognizable to those who have watched wrestling even just once: Batista, Big Show, Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, John Cena (my son's favorite), MVP, and Rick Flair even made an appearance, garnering a standing ovation from the crowed.

I think my son has converted me, and I'm a fan - at least for the live events.

And there's hot guys in tight briefs.

edited: I found this video from last night.  If you watch just the first forty-five seconds, you'll get an idea of what it was like...just think bigger, and much, much louder:

staged or not fun is the idea right,
and if that involves hunks in tights... so be it
it might be staged, but oh mercy... them tights: pile-drived, "you can't see me," 4 figure leg locked visions! --rated-- I'm glad your youngest and you had some fun.
My father and I only did two things together as I was growing up. We watched Star Trek and professional wrestling. This was back in the dys of Bobo Brazil, Bruno Samartino and Antonio Rocca... but the show was much the same. As a result I am a lifetime Trekkie and will occasionally watch wrestling today. It is really good theatre.

All that to lead up a ten cent tale about a time when I was flying back into my home turf Maryland after moving down to Florida. I was at the car rental counter to pick up a car when I noticed two people beside me that caught my attention. The man standing at the counter arranging for the car was extremely tall and broad shouldered. His traveling companion who stood back from the counter and beside me was far shorter... even shorter than I was. In a minute I realized that I was looking at Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio.... without his mask. Rey saw that I was looking so I spoke to him briefly. The guy's small in height but he's got a neck like a fire hydrant. and Randy is just freakish, even in street clothes. Rated.
Trig ~ yep, it was so much more fun than I could have imagined, and youngest son was really impressed with me.

Mr. Mustard ~ oh, my, yes! *fans self*

Harp ~ I won't relate your story to the wild child, as he'd be completely green with envy. He loves Rey Mysterio. Now...if you'd met Batista, it'd be me that was jealous.

Thanks, y'all.
Fun is good. Period!
I don't know about well-built. Pro wrestlers look too steroidy to me, like Mighty Mouse but without the flying.
Owl ~ yes! This son is the last of three, and the only one I've been able to stay home with full time. I enjoy his company, and we always have a blast together.

Hello ~ amazingly enough, WWE tests for steroids. I initially felt the same way you do, but I dunno...after looking much longer, and enjoying the view immensely, well...let's just say I'm now appreciative. :D
Dear Earthling,

This comment would belong to one of your earlier posts which I had the opportunity to recommend for inclusion in the prestigious(?) "PopSmiley's Greatest Picks", a kind of "Non-Editor's Picks". You, too, can put on your own PopSmiley hat and recommend any other post to that same list. Please do.
Very best regards.

Well darn, can't see the video due to terms of use violation. You'd think that WWE would want the free publicity. I loved reading your post (probably much more than I would have enjoyed seeing the event "raw")!
