The Right-Wing Case for Torturing Scott Roeder

Rate: 3 Flag

From The Huffington Post:

WICHITA, Kan. — The man charged with murdering a high-profile abortion doctor claimed from his jail cell Sunday that similar violence was planned around the nation for as long as the procedure remained legal, a threat that comes days after a federal investigation launched into his possible accomplices.

Scott Roeder called The Associated Press from the Sedgwick County jail, where he's being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the shooting of Dr. George Tiller one week ago.

"I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal," Roeder said. He would not elaborate.

It almost looks like Roeder has knowledge of other planned attacks of violence.  If right-wingers are in favor of the Dick-Bush-doctrine and torture programs to protect American citizens against external terrorist threats then they should be in favor of using them - as a matter of principle - to disrupting acts of domestic terrorism too, right?  It's a post-Tiller world, and we cannot afford to treat this like a policing problem.  So, if there is a one-percent chance that Roeder has a knowledge of plans of domestic terrorist attack then he should be tortured, if need be, in order to save American lives.

good point, but it assumes those of the Right would, in fact, consider what Roeder did to be terrorism. Some would say it was anything but that, and was actually life-saving justice. Abortion opponents whose opposition is based on the assumption that the fetus is a human being, complete with the same rights as you or me, will never accept that the murder of an abortionist is terrorism. Indeed, if you truly believe abortion is murder, then you are obligated to do whatever is necessary to protect the innocent life of the unborn, including killing the potential murderer before he can commit the crime.
The hypocrisy of the right is boundless and gives a new view on the concept of infinity.

NEVER Quit - NEVER give up, for them we are doomed to the apocalypse they so cravenly crave.

What I said in a post about whether Roeder should be waterboarded or not:

"Brown people with no intelligence to back up their arrest get bruised, battered, beaten, tied up, tied down, strung up, strung out, bent over, confined, spit on, violated, needled, force fed, and deprived of sleep. Many don’t ever say a thing useful in America’s supposed fight against extremism and violence in the world.

White people like Roeder who have a clear history of extremism that can be connected to terrorists like Eric Rudolph and Terry McVeigh get to run their mouth to the press but suffer no consequences. The media is allowed to spread what they say and increase the terror those in need of abortions and those who administer abortions experience each day."

I'll add that I figure the police in Wichita would not want to use these techniques to get Roeder to talk about who will be committing more acts of violence.

Most likely, members of the Wichita Police are sympathetic to Roeder's actions. Maybe a few are members of the local Operation Rescue like Scott Roeder was or still is.
I think you're right, fascist movements like what we see on the radical right always require popular support. They will not torture him because they agree to much of what he's about. Because they share the same beliefs or identity they exempt him. He's not enough of an "other" to get tortured.
