I can’t help but love Lucy. The way she’s always getting into such mischief. You just know from the look in her eyes that there’s hijinks afoot. I could watch her all day long. Oh, you think I’m talking about the screwball comedy red-head. No, I’m talking about the five year old Oreo striped cat who was beaten and tortured and left to die alone in the streets. That’s the Lucy I love.
She lives at Irving House now and despite her being diagnosed with cancer she is a loving cat who is happy to just be cuddled on a lap. She’s with people who care about her and she knows she is safe and wanted. Isn’t that what we all want?
Some say it’s irresponsible to care for a sick cat, that the money could be better spent. That’s exactly why I founded Irving House, because the money, much too short in supply, tends to focus on young and relatively healthy animals while the older and special needs animals face life in a cage or worse. And being special needs myself I know that that’s just wrong.
Yes Irving is nearly blind, so am I. And Abbie has kidney issues, so have I. And Lucy has cancer, so did I. I guess to some people such minor imperfections are rather unattractive but at Irving House we know that’s exactly what puts the special in special needs.
Irving House Animal Sanctuary is where special animals are cared for by special people. Join with us at www.irvinghouse.org and show us how special you are.

There is nothin "irresponsible" in giving an animal the love and care it deserves.
People who say 'They're just animals" forget that so are we. They have just as much humanity as we do.
We fail, so often, to realize that ultimate truth.
