So I've heard some carping about how Bo is receiving too much attention, that it shows how shallow the media is, how he's just a distraction from important news stories, etc. I disagree completely. Much of the press about Bo has been done in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, aware of the frivolity of the story.

It is a frivolous story but Bo is also an important story. Why? One word: cute. Bo is cute. Puppies in general are cute. People like cute things. The economy is bad. The news always seems to be bad. People don't like bad things and sometimes they need a break from bad things. So sometimes people deserve to see cute things. And most people like the President, who has a ridiculous amount of work and stress. We all know he could use a break. And people like Michelle and the girls. President+family+puppy=happy feelings.

Frankly, I think we all could use some happy, guilt-free feelings.
