Subway portraits taken with my cell phone

I've been working on a series of photographs taken on the NYC subway. My cell phone is the perfect camera, because no one even pays attention, they just assume that I'm texting or something. So I can get great candid shots of all kinds of people. I'll be posting a series of these photos. I hope you enjoy them and check out the next installment.

An acquaintance of my daughter's in San Francisco did an ongoing "hot or not" with photos from public transit there. It became so "viral" that it was featured on the local news. I much prefer the captured moments as art.

Imagine that you're the one taking the pictures--trust me, it feels weird. But it's kind of a rush.

@ Julie: the hot-or-not thing is stupid. There are far more interesting things on the subway.
@ Lainey: None of these people are really doing anything interesting. They're just riding the subway. It's not like I'm spying on them in private! :)

Remarkably candid and, perhaps because of the resolution and light limitations of cell phone cameras, also very gritty and raw. These photos also capture the "democratizing" nature of taking public transportation in big cities. Rated and looking forward to the next installment.

Thanks Ablonde and Shivaun. Shivaun, the lighting is very dicey and unpredictable on the subway--those damn fluorescent lights! There will definitely be a next installment.
