Would You Rather Be Politically Correct Or Dead?

Rate: 4 Flag

Terrorism and the specter of 9/11 reared its terrifying head on Christmas Day with the alleged attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to blow up a Detroit-bound plane.  Fortunately, Mr. Abdulmutallab's explosive device failed to activate correctly, thereby saving the lives of all the passengers and crew.

The question remains:  What could have been done to prevent Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from boarding the plane?  The answer has nothing to do with full-body scans, taking off your shoes, or hiring more TSA workers.  The answer is simple yet hard to admit because it is politically incorrect:  "Racial Profiling."

Let me make myself clear.  I do not believe that every young Arab male or individual with an Arab sounding name is a terrorist.  What I am suggesting that with regard to air travel, there is a higher likelihood that a young Arab male will commit acts of terrorism than any other group.  My suggestion might infuriate the ACLU, but I think that many airport security experts would agree with me.

Recently, I put my two children on a flight to fly as unaccompanied minors.  I do not believe that there were any young Arab males on their flight.   However, if there were any young Arab males I would hope that airport security would have conducted an extra thorough search on those individuals rather than a randomly chosen search on a eigthy seven year-old grandmother from Wisconsin.

So I ask again, would you rather be politically correct or dead?

Whatever happened to "fly the friendly skies?"
Profiling!?!?!??! God forbid!!! The left will wet their panties!!!

How dare we offend people who keep trying to kill us.
Blackflon - it's about acknowledging the truths of where the terrorist threats are coming from and using common sense to protect ourselves.
Flying isn't a right, it's an amazing privilege.

It used to take weeks or months to travel the world.

If you don't like full body scans and pat downs, I've got 1 word for you: Greyhound.

We're lucky they didn't say after 9/11, ok everyone? New travel attire: Hospital gowns and slippers. Everything else gets checked. Everything.

The point is correct, until an 87 year-old grandma from wisconsin brings down a plane with some C-4 loaded kielbasa, past experience with attempted and successful terrorist incidents should tell you to focus your efforts on those most likely to fit the terrorist profile.
Cobalt-ic - It makes absolutely no sense having random searches when there are certain groups who are more likely than others to commit acts of terrorism. It may be politically incorrect to target these groups, but it is an effective way to protect innocent lives and prevent suicide bombing massacres.
The only problem with racial profiling at airports is that terrorists are just as smart as you and me. They would just choose the whitest guy around to get on the plane (under an assumed name). Then we'd have to start profiling white people too.

I think the airlines should be equally hostile to everyone.
The New Number Two - "Racial" Profiling is just one aspect of preventing terroristic attacks. There are other types of profiling which narrow down the viable suspects so that time and energy are not wasted checking passengers that do not pose a threat.
I look at it this way, some nations are hostile to ours. They are all security threats. Some just contina a very high number of security threats. Any citizen of those states should have at least some scrutiny, like North Korea, Iran, etc. I've seen a list from Lucent as a recruiter they didn't want candidates from because it was high level projets for the gov with security concerns, so if they can legally say, we dont want to see people from North Korea, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, etc, can we just use a little common sense and say nationals of those countries pose a bigger security risk than a 26 year old secretary from Santa Monica or an old lady with a fruitcake for her nephew? It's more complex than, "Hey, you look mideastern." 15 of the 19 hijakers were from Saudi Arabia. Saudi nationals should undergo more scrutiny. Russians did in the 80s. I'm not suggesting dragging them in a room and hooking them up to a car battery, but if someone if from Syria, yeah, we could ask a few questions. And call it national profiling. Yes, there are countries we suspect of harboring or containing a lot more terrorisst and posing a security threat. At least check their fucking bags and do a quick pat down. Personally I just think 6 foot Xray machines at airports. Let people walk through to see if anything is unusual on their body. Would that catch a shoe bomber or this asstard? Maybe.
I realize how ironic that last comment sounds after the last video I posted, but yes, we should protect our airline passengers.
@Blackflon
>implying that the people who want to kill us are the young arab males. Statistically there are more white domestic terrorists than arab terrorists, stupid.
@ClosureIsaMyth
Common sense doesn't even exist. If you want to profile, why don't you just chose those the US is at war with, and profile asians as well? Maybe pull another japanese interment camp scenario?
