Mother of four. Teacher - currently middle school; college and high school in the past. Newspaper columnist. Aspiring bon vivant. ________________________________ I hate pasting labels on people - and I especially hate having them pasted upon my furrowed brow. Don't assume you know what I think about any given subject -you'll just get into trouble that way. Favorite quotes which give you more insight into me than any pretentious drivel I might write - "Treat every man according to his deserts, and who shall 'scape whipping?" - Hamlet (Shakespeare, but you knew that.) "I contain multitudes" - Walt Whitman. "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" - Emerson. "Love the Lord thy God, and love thy neighbor as thyself" - Jesus. "What fresh hell is this?" - Dorothy Parker.

Good News Sunday - Who dat got some good news? Who dat?

Rate: 7 Flag

It's a Super Bowl edition of Good News Sunday!

Normally I could not care any less about any professional sport, and especially football. The NFL trying to appropriate "Who dat"? I think not. But in this case, I'll make an exception. If winning a silly game can bring so much joy to a far-flung community which needs some joy, well then by golly, here's hoping they do indeed win. WHO DAT!

My second bit of good news is that I received a thank you note on facebook from a former high school student from 12 or so years ago. The text:

" I just wanted to say hello. You probably remember me as the quieter member of the class. I am currently a Captain in the U.S. Army, soon to be stationed at FT Hood, TX. As I have gone around the world, I have reflected on some of the experiences of the past. Whether you realized it or not, you greatly impacted and broadened the depths of my literary/socio-political development. This broadening of horizons has helped me to more quickly adapt to and understand the fundamentals values and mores of the different countries that I have experienced.

The short version of this is clear. Thank You."

How great is that? NOW I remember why I teach!

Third bit of good news - a pleasant surprise when I went to check my bank balance. My husband received a pay check 2 weeks before expected! IRS and car payment - MADE.  I cannot tell you how much pressure was relieved by this.

And lastly, my boys' Scout Pack collected over 1,500 lbs. of food for the Souper Bowl of Caring on Saturday. When combined with another Troop, over a literal TON of food was collected for our local food pantry. All their hard work really paid off, and I'm so glad they were able to help those most in need in our community.

What a weekend! Hope this bodes well for next week. I can almost not resent all the grading I have to do!
