If you're not too busy, OS...Kyrgyzstan has fallen

Rate: 11 Flag

If you're not too busy trying to figure out who has more readers here on OS, you might be interested to know that Kyrgyzstan has fallen in a bloody coup, and some are calling it all our fault...

Over at the Daily Beast you'll find a lively discussion going on about this and other actual issues of the day, that is, other than who just pissed who off on OS (oh what will we do?):

I don't think it's fallen, but it sure can't get up! This was a bullshit regime from day one. And remember, no fatty fat-fats. Seriously.
Just saw on streaminglive, or was it bbcnews, they have a bunch of people in custody now...standby for the show trials, the counter-accusations, and all the other standard stuff that goes along with what looks like another creeps-with-cash CIA stunt...
this is what happens when you get in bed with the cia.

alternatively, this is what happens when you are a brutal and corrupt dictator.

alternatively, this is what happens when you demand more money from the cia.

alternatively, some combination of the above.

come back in a month and see whose planes are using that big base.
Ah Commentary, you and your colleagues are warriors for what is right. OS is a pitiful little place, is it not? Holdout for the hopeless and the washed up. Let us all just hang our heads and rehearse our powerlessness, for there is nothing we can do. Kyrgyzstan is a mess for the same reason most places are--globalization, a scourge devised by the sadism of the few at the top, coupled with the culpable indifference of the many who know exactly what is being done in their names...and despite all their yelping, they do nothing. Fight on, my friends, fight on. Amen. (no hurumph)
Typical for the post-Soviet places, nobody knows what's going on. These countries have been tortured by America and Russia for so long...and of course the older generations in both countries have been taught to be good little girls and boys and not complain about it. Nasty.
Davey's got a point. Why is it we always hear about these situations once it's too late? The newsies are too busy reporting on the latest erection device for seniors. Sick little fucks.
So what are YOU going to do about it other than troll OS?
emma, i used to do what i could: suggest that if americans took their country away from the politicians, it might become more civilized. they don't want to. the vast majority are content with inequality, injustice, and eternal warfare, as long as someone else is suffering.

many people point out the sins and crimes of america on this site, but never forget their opinions are radical and represent a miniscule part of the population. should we then allow the thugs and spivs to have unfettered access to the history books?

no.
The opposition in Kyrgyzstan claims that the sitting PM has resigned and it is setting up a government--even though they have no power structure and the military has not declared which side it's on. You can get live updates here from the BBC:

Bakiyev is no prize to be sure, but we've seen this kind of coup before in former Soviet republics, only to fall apart or become a nightmare...hardly a "people's" movement if you ask me. The power vacuum just breeds rampant corruption and privatization schemes--another Milton Friedman wet dream....
Who supports the coup, the US or the Russians? We also shouldn't forget that the Chinese are the newest and most serious power-players in the region either. And they have, potentially, more staying power and demographic muscle than either the Bear or the Eagle.

That said, we should exit from the "Great Game." I am sick of central Asian Realpolitik...
"jack" you're wanted over on westlake.
