Bio
A "writer" in that I transmit others' words, all the time, on a huge variety of subjects. A professional observer; a silent listener. I nonetheless have a voice, which I like to let out once in awhile (nice doggie). Owner of children and cats and one puppy. Standing still, battling fight or flight syndrome.

1.  I love music.

2.  I love writing, reading, and, hopefully, creating, via the written word.

3.  Law, Politics - and, within them, the everpresent Words - are seminal to my existence.

 4.  I love to play.  I love to play with words.  I love word games (Boggle, Jotto, Scrabble); but also board and card games.  It's a family tradition.

5.  I love a good argument; but abhor confrontation.  I'm a diplomat (with some teeth) with nearly all but my own (ungrateful) children.

6.  I adore art.  It makes me feel.  It enables me to feel.  It feels for me.  In my dotage, I'm gravitating to sculpture more.  I don't know why.

 7.  I want to learn to weld.

8.  I love to make soup.  And things in crockpots.

 9.  I choose men poorly.

10.  I'm funny, witty, quick, and can be snarky and sharp.  It goes with the territory.

 11.  My feet are large and, without proper dosing, smelly.

 12.  I am adopted; my birthmother is unwilling to communicate.  It has caused me pause; I'm overcoming it.

13.  I gave up a beautiful boy for adoption when I was 17; he found me nearly four years ago.  He is a blessing and a joy and incredibly talented and gorgeous (and a handful).

14.  I am a proud Leo, though don't believe in that astrology stuff.

15.  I, too, am quite fond of religious ceremony - gimme some Gospel! but equally negative toward "organized" religions.

16.  I feel deeply, but mistrust same.

17.  I'm a big sports fan - I think it's like church:  you're there together with others with the same goal, and it's great for  community spirit.  Go Jayhawks!  Go Chiefs!

18.  When I was small, I believed that god was mad at me.  I haven't quite gotten over that.

19.  I like to gamble; I like the controlled risk.  I suspect, given the chance, I'd love to drive a Formula car @ over 200 mph.

20.  I'm turning into a hermit:  don't answer the phone unless it's convenient - nevermind who's calling; don't like crowds; fantasizing about retirement in Central America near a beach.

21.  I have wonderful skin.

22.  I'd like to, just once, literally kick someone's ass.

23.  I generally know what's right and how to fix most things.  Oddly enough, not everyone believes this.

24.  I believe in the following:  If someone catches you doing a good deed, its value is halved.

25.  I should be Secretary of State.

I dunno if this was an open call or not - I was away for the past week or so. But I've read some of y'alls, and this is fun. Good therapy.
the best short story I ever read was about a man who knows how to fix anything - it's a good quality, if you don't let others needs pull you too far away from yours surface. #14 made me smile. And #22 - unfortunately I sort of relate to that. ;-)
I agree about fixing things........but that means people are constantly giving you stuff.....they will always say: "I thought you could look at it when you have time."
or: "I thought it would be a fun project....you're so good at this stuff."

Welding is a very gratifying process. Controlled molten metal flowing onto surfaces.......the culmination of all the metallurgical history of the human race.

Hate it too, when that damn phone keeps ringing........

(that's your new name, btw, in my head. it's kind of like ember and slumber)

I gave up on the illustratives 'cause I thought it was lame that I had to keep going to Googla images for same.

re: No. 9 - I'm very sanguine about it all. (and don't forget the root word for sanguine. very close to fire, in my humble est.)

I love the short story forum. Was supposed to go to a book club soiree last week wherein we'd exchange a (gently) used, very loved book. I'd chosen to proffer a reissued first edition (c. '53) by O'Hara. I still think that's why I didn't end up going....
Good list. I relate to #5, #7, #9, and #20 and wholeheartedly support #25 ;0)
Great list Connie. It's revealing...as it should be.
I took a Mercedes up to 180 in the desert. About peed my pants. Never again. But there's something about being in a car that can do it that makes you say, "Of course I have to." Interesting list.
Connie, I loved everything on your list, but especially the fantasy of kicking someone's ass. I just watched this bizarre movie Death Proof, crazy movie but there are some women in the movie who kick Kurt Russell's ass and I could hear myself cheering. Scary but a good feeling. I'm sorry about your birthmother. That would be one pain that would be challenging to move past.
I'm glad you decided to play, Connie. I've felt you were like many of these so I sense you are very true to yourself. I'm with you on #4, #8, #10, and #21. I believe you about #23 (don't want to give you reason to kick my ass!)
re #18: when I was small I had ritualized the need to speak one very specific prayer before going to sleeping each night. I was convinced god would be mad at me if I forgot and consequently make me die in my sleep.

I can't remember how long it took me to outgrow that, but the fear was intense.
#3, #4, #9, #10, #14, #23- right there with you. ((#17- one of my earliest photos is me toddling around in a Jayhawk sweatshirt, but my loyalty now is with the Longhorns.) My New Year's wish for you: let go of that childhood god.
Happy New Year!
What is it about kicking someone's ass that is so appealing? Can quite relate. As a matter of fact, studied Taekwondo for years to explore this deeper. And you know what? It's ALL that its cracked up to be and more. When I think of some of the top highlights of my life, they would have to be martial arts and fighting. It's so primal and runs so deep. By the time you're done sparring, a worthy opponent, you feel like someone else. Something very complex happens that has made me laugh and cry and shake at the same time. It's like I saw a whole other side to me that I had no clue about. Let's all kick some ass!
It's fun to peel back the layers a bit, isn't it? :-D

Good list, C.M. #24 is intriguing. Though I have to say to all you #22'ers, yes it feels good when you're doing it but it is so greatly over-rated. Having been on both the giving and receiving end of same, giving is better than receiving.

Thumbed.
