Bio
A "writer" in that I transmit others' words, all the time, on a huge variety of subjects. A professional observer; a silent listener. I nonetheless have a voice, which I like to let out once in awhile (nice doggie). Owner of children and cats and one puppy. Standing still, battling fight or flight syndrome.

Stop Smiling!

Rate: 17 Flag

Stop Smiling is this wonderful magazine I've been hooked up with for a couple years now.

I couldn't figure out how to insert a doc or a .pdf or any damn thing into email, so I'll post this for/to the Chicagoans who might be able to attend:

I hope you can read the pertinent details above; I tried to link in the downloadable file, but failed.

I'm Very fond of Stop Smiling.  They've featured just about every person/genre I'm crazy about... jazz, Altman, H.S. Thompson (fanTAStic), Politics, the Wackness, Studs T, Elmore Leonard, writerly writers, non writerly writers, art, music, hiphop, the blues, sports, Chicago, NY, LA, SF, America....

Take this piece from last month:

 The Power of Plausible Thinking

Talking Political Smack with Bill Adair of PolitiFact.com

And:   They have cheap subscriptions; great gift packs; and out of the blue will send you a poster... or a Cd... or, more perversely, a 45!

Go AHEAD, check them out.  Insert a word in their Search box.  I defy you to come up empty-handed.

I'll mark my calendar and if I make it, I'll file a report.
Doesn't Hunter look like Tommy Smothers in this picture? Or maybe Bob Newhart? Wherever I am I often preface a journal entry: Fear and loathing in..."

I feel ignorant that I've never heard of the mag and will check it out, love the name of the book store: Canarium!
Thanks for the recommendation--most of what I like these days I get by recommendation...
I ran into some networkers in my day, but Connie u take the cake. Are u an agent of some sort?

Still it looks like a great place to explore. Thanks for the pointer!

Looks fun! I'll check out the links.
Connie..thanks so much for the info!
Interesting pic of the late doctor T.
Thanks, Connie. It looks like a hip and artsy magazine which is just how I like 'em. I appreciate that the starter subscription is so affordable, too. Hunter S. Thompson alone is worth the price of admission!
Cool! Thanks for the tip- I love to hear about all the great talent we have in our town. I'd go to the event but I don't think they'll let me into the Wicker Park neighborhood. I'm not cool enough. :-|
Thanks for this, I will check it out!

Thanks Connie. I never heard of this magazine before, but I will check it out based on your recommendation.
I'm checking it out too.
Thanks for posting this- looks interesting.
I looked, and will likely lookie again. Do you write there? (I'm a secret admirer of your, btw--and not the stalking kind neither)
How did you know that Chicago is my second 'home"? LOVE this! What do I have to do to get you to spot me subscription - stop smiling?
Thumbed.
Thanks for the tip. First I'd heard. I'll check it out.
very cool, and new to me. Thanks.
i can't stop smiling it looks so good. thanks for the tip.
Love the pics and the links. Good stuff and thanks.
this looks fantastci! thank you for the link!
What a fantastic snapshot of Hunter T.!

I can quite easily imagine an abstract Steadman-esque character dancing behind the camera, juggling all manner of mind-expanding pharmaceuticals as Thompson chuckles suspiciously.

Too weird to live...
Fun! I still think of Dr. Gonzo in the Barsto to Vegas leg with amyl nitrate capsules blowing up from the air conditioner every time I see Hunter Thompson, especially younger photos. Thanks for the memories; and thanks for the link to "Stop Smiling"...I'll check it out.
