Bio
A "writer" in that I transmit others' words, all the time, on a huge variety of subjects. A professional observer; a silent listener. I nonetheless have a voice, which I like to let out once in awhile (nice doggie). Owner of children and cats and one puppy. Standing still, battling fight or flight syndrome.

Whither the rage?

Wherefore art the reasoned discourse?

And why can't we call them on it?

We do, and it doesn't seem to stick.  It either slides right off,

And thus its power increases.

it cleaves to the roof of my mouth

I am speechless

for once

And moving beyond appalled

Clowns to the left of me; jokers to the right....
I think FEAR on both sides.

Not just one side.

denese
There are some nuts out there for sure who will believe anything about Obama. Maybe more people will have to lose their jobs and healthcare before they realize how perilous the current system is.
These days of insanity and discourse remind me of the asylum when the Haldol runs low.
Clowns and jokers I can deal with. Artificially whipped-up irrational mobs with an active and insurmountable resistance to facts and reason, though? Those terrify me.
This cannot end well.
here I am, stuck in the middle with you Connie.

It's pretty sickening to see all the lies and the people who believe them. I did a youtube search for the piece that Tweety did with the gun toting protestor in NH, and ran across all sorts of hateful screeds from numbskulls.

I don't get it either.
I've been asking myself the same question. Verbal said it very well. I look at all these angry people and I guess I have to assume they all have affordable, employer-paid healthcare? And if so, are they really that cold and callous about the millions in this country that do NOT? Do these people realize it could easily happen to THEM? And the rising violence - unseen in decades here. What the hell???
Yeah, I should retitle this: Am I going Crazy... Or is everybody else?

I'm so glad there's a "here" here - cause I sure feel surrounded lately. And, as I've said elsewhere, I Know some of these people; am related to others. I'm constantly coming up with excuses for them - I mean, some of these folks demonstrated against the Vietnam War! - hmmm... maybe they're suffering PTSD from the Bush Years? Maybe all their faith and belief in the System and the Flag and the Guv'ment has recoiled into their systems like the testicles on a terribly frightened man and imploded! Maybe they just Sick and Tired of Not Being Listened To, and they're just vomiting all over the wrong person, Criminal Obama!

I DON'T KNOW!
Never underestimate the power of the neoconservatives who are masters at negative and dirty play. It may all backfire, is my hope but I do feel stuck in the middle with you.....
I read today some clown was wearing a gun, and nobody did anything about it! I mean, WTF? If that guy would have worn a gun to a Bush affair the cops would have beat him senseless and thrown him into the hole forever.

It's like the cops are siding with these jokers. I am tired of it.
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how anyone could think instigating people like this would accomplish anything good, or...at all.
I blame it on education, or lack of. I would like to see a fourth grade course on questioning authority, simplified, some junior high classes on cross-checking sources, a freshman course on reading between the lines and a senior course on advanced skepticism. Or maybe just some social history.
I saw that video of Arlen Specter and that angry white male. I have to say, I was impressed by the way Specter waded into the crowd and took charge of the situation. So much better than the way Senator Kerry handled a similar situation, standing by helplesly while the cops tazed that kid.
Unruly mobs, racists, and morons, who should know better, fueling the fires. Fascism here we come.
Apparently many folks are of the "Up yours, Jack, I've got mine and I'll protect it with any means necessary" mentality. Sort of like Nero fiddling whilst Rome burned.

Democracy lives and dies with its citizens. We've been taken over by the corporations and special interest groups. Like Sean Connery's character asked in "The Untouchables", I would pose the same question to America:

What are you prepared to do?

What are WE prepared to do?

"You say you got a real solution,
Well you know,
We'd all love to see the plan.
You ask me for a contribution,
Well you know,
We're all doing what we can.

But if you want money for people with minds that hate,
All I can tell you is brother you'll have to wait."
Craaaaazy - yep.

peece,
dj
oh, god, honey, i know waht you mean. this is unfathomable to me. reminds me of crowds gathering to keep black children out of school. of so many hideous times in this country and the world. it's truly horrifying. and it's all about the money involved, of coruse. nothing to do people being put to sleep. we live in interesting times, for sure. love love love and gratitude.

if you can, please read and rate my post. i'm shouting out for parity in mental health coverage. it's so fucked up now. there is no care for most of us.
What the hell is going on here?

Looks like Americans insisting on sinking back down to the government they deserve.

Looks like people who have grown so dependent on the MSM that they round the wagons up into a circle when they're told to, and fire into the dark at imaginary demons, recalling valiant scenes from John Wayne and Rambo and Dirty Harry movies.

Looks like people who've been dumbed down so far that they don't realize that they might feel even better if they acted to advance their own interests (like arresting the decline in their physical and financial health) rather than to undermine them, as Reagan, Gingrich, Cheney, Rove, Halliburton, et al., have conditioned them to want.

Looks like prima facie evidence that the U.S. should consider voluntarily, amicably splitting into at least two countries.

That way, ten years from now, we'd find out which experiment in government worked better: the one that was run on Limbaughesque Jingoism and Bluster, or the mildly progressive one we once believed to be securely in place.

Otherwise, we may never figure out what the hell is going on here.

[rated for sheer graphic visceral terror]
I think Denese nailed it. It's all because of FEAR. They're behaving irrationally and refusing to listen to logic because they think the sky is falling and that's all they can focus on. These are crazy times indeed.
Our collective eye is not deceiving us, we're just feigning denial. I ask, Where were all these Holy Birthers when George's AWOL was the topic? Who needs a dictionary to define torture? What's the rule of law when they‘re all measured with rubberbands? Who profits most from the illiterate/illiteracy? There is unaccountable wealth in one direction, and there are unaccountable prisons in the other. Are excessive prison populations a sign of affluence among the more nationally elite? Which came first, Guantanamo or the enemy combatants? What this country needs is a National Woodstock Day. Sure the times were crazy, but we were all a lot saner at our roots. The KKK was on it's way out and the moral majority was neither.
These people have no intention of learning or debating, all they care about is creating havoc. The crazies have arrived and where is this leading the U.S.?
People are sheep. Unfortunate, but true.
I never imagined this horror could be turned into such expressive, poetic writing. I'm impressed.

And with you, I am just stunned. This is really frightening to me. I guess after so many years of being fed right-wing lies, mostly unchallenged by the hobbled mainstream media, people are primed to react badly.

So they stir these people up, whip them into their frothing frenzies, they scare the timid and unprincipled members of Congress, sane health care reform dies again, and the situation GETS WORSE FOR ALMOST EVERYONE.

I am losing faith in happy endings.
Faux News. I like it. Here in Chicago, whenever the commercials come on for Fox News, it always sounds like Fuck News. ;)
A friggin' nightmare.
right now fear is big business and everyone is looking to make a profit
