"Let the jury consider their verdict," the King said, for about the twentieth time that day.

"No, no!" said the Queen. "Sentence first—verdict afterwards."

"Stuff and nonsense!" said Alice loudly. "The idea of having the sentence first!"

"Hold your tongue!" said the Queen, turning purple.

"I won't!" said Alice.

"Off with her head!" the Queen shouted at the top of her voice. Nobody moved.

"Who cares for you?" said Alice (she had grown to her full size by this time). "You're nothing but a pack of cards!"

At this the whole pack rose up into the air, and came flying down upon her: she gave a little scream, half of fright and half of anger, and tried to beat them off, and found herself lying on the bank, with her head in the lap of her sister, who was gently brushing away some dead leaves that had fluttered down from the trees upon her face.

"Wake up, Alice dear!" said her sister. "Why, what a long sleep you've had!"

I remember my sister saying she forgot the plots of most books she read but that everything was new again to her and now your life is new again to you who still hopes beyond infirmities to wander this foreign land where you’re no tourist but haven’t found a home - where now more than ever before you love the air and light and dark and heavy damp of it and you want the all of it, and more.  Suddenly your house of cards feels like a winning hand.

yes, yes. perspective is all about angles. how i look at life - the good and hard, the struggle and the sweetness (... "the air and light and dark and heavy damp of it" ...) so differently because someone i love is dying, so i see it all from an angle somewhere between my place and his, and it looks so different. i'll read this many times, c&v, many times.
Arthur Rackham remembers.
i forget mostly everything
the names of students, a pot unattended on the stove, Mondays
and there are books i must read, a wish to commit them to memory before everything is lost
infirmities betray us and make us be children again
did you know Alice is one of my favorites?
perhaps having everything become new again is a strange gift
must reread, of course
Leaving me mouth agape, again. I don't know anyone else who expresses desire as well, just plain unquenchable desire for everything in sight.
the all ... of it ...
as it is ...
and as it comes ...
as if ... one day ...
we might ...
know ... have ... find ...
be ...
feel ...
all ... of it ...
and more ...
so much ...
Please forgive my tardy return. I keep missing the brass ring. Thanks, all, for your visits and generous comments.

femme ~ yes. C.S. Lewis said something like what you see and hear depends on where you're standing, but it also depends on the kind of person you are. Or, in your case, the kind person you are.

mhold ~ He took pictures.

vanessa ~ I think it is a gift. I once knew a lovely man, a physician from Goa, who read Alice every year.

db ~ Though I'm wondering if Sunday was Extravagant Compliments Day, I'm thrilled you think so. (Did you know today is National Compliments Day?)

Michelle ~ Thank you!

anna1liese ~ one day, this day
