Rate: 26 Flag

Because you asked for it, here are some photos I took this afternoon while reveling in mud and the relative warmth. And for added fun, since this is Open Salon where You make the headlines, on this page, You Make the Captions!

Write some creative, pithy, thought-provoking, silly, happy, sad or descriptive captions and indicate which photo they are for. I will be picking winners and will update this page with the winning captions tomorrow. Have at it and have fun!

B. You pull down your pants, squat, then pee... like in France!

( I can't help it, that water thing reminded me of toilets in France - if you have ever been there, you will understand)
Geezer, thanks. Go sharpen your pencil and do your best!

MAWB, yes, I've been to France, but your image reminds me of the concrete holes in the ground with footprints on either side in Romania. Thank you for playing!
Wonderful work. I'm going to have to look at them more closely and try to be witty! That's hard for me. Rated

Style, you do some beautiful work with fungi, no doubt about it. I share your love of bring tiny, beautiful images into view. Our experiences differ, in that you live somewhere where there's a winter. Our seasons here are December, January, February, and summer. (Ha.) Spring is a spectacular time of year. It's my favorite season, with the possible exception of autumn, I mean December.
Rich, I saute a mean mushroom, too. Thanks for your kind compliments. I've always lived where there's a winter. I've traveled to places where it's not like here, but it's hard to imagine not having the progression of the five seasons. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Mud.

(Pssssst-- Spring is my favorite season, too!)
The votes are in. As soon as OS stops hiccuping and allows me to post a new post, the results will be revealed. Meanwhile you can go read about affordable wind turbine spam. Apparently that can get posted.

STAY TUNED . . .

Hey, thanks, COS! I almost never win anything, so this is a treat.

I suppose that I'll have to post a recipe some Foody Tuesday on St. Louis style brains. I never could get past the idea of eating them, but there are small ethnic cafes all over St. Louis that still serve lots of "brain sandwiches," and assorted organ food (?) oddities.

Monte
Thank you! Thank you! Glad you liked it!

I liked this game!

Schwing!
Randy, your list came in after the "official" deadline, but like all good former newspaper editors, I managed to squeeze in one of your captions. Good job!

Monte, I've never tried brains and wouldn't rule it out. Not that I'm going out of my way for them, mind you. Thank you for playing. Enjoy your prize.

JK, I'm sensing a disturbance in the OS force that says people want to play again, so I'll work on that. Thank you!
Hey, cool. I'm glad you liked my B! It occurred to me later there might also be some sort of thing surrounding the notion of someone dying of thirst for want of a can opener, but I couldn't quite make that one work. (Randy's “Famous Last Word” seemed to be dancing around the same theme.) So I'm glad my other entry was good enough.

For A, I thought Pamela's “Petrified Cauliflower” was good, as well as Randy's “Mr. Mandelbrot's Breakfast” and Blue's “Dandelion Blood.”

For C, I liked gm's blooming green pepper entry, though I doubt the Outback would feature anything that healthy as an appetizer. Pity. I love their steaks but their appetizers are scary.

Regarding D, I liked all Roy's Mandala things as a set. It didn't make as much sense to me as individual labels.

I also liked the Urban Glacier entry by Mr. Mustard for E. Michael's “Crystalline Revelation” was good, too.

FLW's “Schwing!” entry was as good as any for F. That was a hard one.
Thanks, COS! It was fun.
Kent, thank you for your thoughts and your detailed analysis. I would expect nothing less from you.

Cat, I'm glad you had a good time. It was fun, wasn't it?

So am I hearing more votes for doing this again some time???
Next time make Gary Justis join in. It's sort of like his contest with the strange looking object we had to write stories about... except this contest works better for people on busy schedules.
Yep, good suggestion, Kent. I didn't make anyone join in, though. This was a "seat-of-the-pants" endeavor. Hmmm. Maybe that's a good business name. Maybe it's way too late in the day and I should be sleeping. Nah! The next contest (am I committing myself? Should I be?) may be more well organized.

We'll see. %;-)
