There are Many Like It, But This Easter is Mine

Easter morning. There is no day on the calendar more filled with hope, with reassurance and with joy.

Earth is gradually awakening. Stretching her arms wide to embrace the warming sun. Greedily taking long, cool draughts of rainwater and melting snow and ice. Eagerly beginning to push the shoots of flowers, grasses, vegetables from the dark, life-giving soil to the promised gift of light.

She slowly grants us the peace that has escaped us through a cold and unforgiving winter. She rewards the people and the animals living on her with glimpses of the largesse to come.

No matter where we look on this Easter morning, be it vast country fields or city streets or a tiny patch of stony backyard filled with no wildlife more exotic than gray squirrels and crows, we are granted a vision into the possibility to come.

If only we will see it. Only if we allow ourselves the opportunity to see beauty will it show itself.

To be sure, beauty gracefully is shown in each plant, each blade of nascent crabgrass, each downy feather, each twig about to be incorporated into a nest.copyright (c) 2009 CoyoteOldStyle

But can you take the time to see the beauty in everyday objects? In a brick? In a sign painted on the side of a building advertising the carbonated confection that once was served in the drug store that used to be there? The drug store is long gone; the red vinyl-covered stools are probably in a landfill with the white paper hats worn by the soda jerk,  but the memory of it still tastes like a Coca-Cola sipped through a paper straw.

On this Easter Day, savor the beauty that you are given. The life you have. The people you love. Even the people you find hard to love. Drink in the amazing potential that this day gifts to you. Be in the moment and give praise for it. Happy Easter!

"And Spring arose on the garden fair,
Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere;
And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest."

~Percy Bysshe Shelley, "The Sensitive Plant"

Wishing you love and happiness at this time and always.
So, we're not going to see a bunch of snow and ice in your next post are we, Style? I mean, this really, really is when the glaciers finally recede and New England can be seen in all its glory? (for a week or two, at least).

It is raining grandchildren here.

Happy Easter!!
Coyote, Wonderful in every way!.....the memory of the Drugstore..long gone, but one time the meeting place for so many young people. thanks for a lovely morning.....
Thank you, Leonde. I hope Maine's just as beautiful this morning!

Rich, hush now, there's still a chance of snow right on through June. Now go hunt eggs with those grandchildren!
Hi Gary, I get teary just thinking about the drug store. It was such a part of everyday life -- the soda fountain and the perfume counter, sweet memories.
Beautiful Coyote. Thanks for the photos. I was imprinting images of buds and bits of green on my grey matter when I was out hiking the other day.
Rebirth! No matter how many times I see it, it's a miracle. Today reminds me that I should dig deep for it in myself, and be aware of it in others.

Thanks for this, COS.

FLW, I like to do that too. It's always amazing to see.

Denese, that's the hard part -- to see it where ever it may be.

Thanks everyone for sharing with me.
thank you.
Happy Easter.
Lovely Easter message, coyote! Particularly the soda fountain which could be a stand-alone poem in itself!
Thank you, my friend.
Happy Easter to you as well, Brian.

O'steph, thank you for coming by. I miss the drug store soda fountain a lot.

Stellaa, thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed this.
From your first image to your last word, you've captured the grace of this springtide holy day, and its delicate beauty.
Thank you, Coyote for bringing the very joys of spring out for us to see. Your photos are stunning!
So glad I dropped in this Easter, Coyote, I remember the very first of your posts which I read, the photo essay after the great ice storm, I love your eye, you transform a faded Coke sign painted on a brick wall to an image as expressive as the stunning flower that you lead with

rated for brilliance
Risa, thank you. There is grace and beauty if we take the time to look and I am so grateful that you did.

Zuma, I never tire of spring. It's my pleasure to share it with you.

Roy, so glad to see you here. And thank you. I wish you a happy spring.
I grew up checking the nests of mom's chickens for eggs everyday, so I never got the boiled egg hunts. Stupid symbolism. monkey fingered.
Lovely thoughts and photos.
Thanks, COS, for a wonderful post on this wonderful day. Happy Easter to you and yours.

Spring means so much more to me when I have lived a winter in a cold climate. What could be more magical than a papery dry bulb that emerges months later as a tulip, or a gleeful daffodil.
Hello everyone! Thanks for your comments. It is great to share this with you. The symbolism of Easter can be pretty stylized, I agree. One of the most curious, to me, is the formation of marshmallow into likenesses of bunnies and chicks of all sort of colors not found in nature. This reminds me of the dyed chicks that my cousins all seemed to received in their Easter baskets. The chicks were always brought to the farm and eventually they grew and shed their bizarre colors. I'm sure animal rights activism has done away with that practice, leaving us with Peeps.

Happy Easter and Happy Spring.
(Wow! Would you look at the stack of chicks in my previous comment. Epic!)
Lovely post, and the text accompanies the pictures rather nicely :) Happy Easter
Hey, thank you, Victor. I'm happy that you came by and enjoyed this.
What a fabulous post. Thank you so much.
Lainey, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading and commenting.
Hi Jane, thanks. It was a very quiet day. We just stayed home and had dinner here. Sometimes that's the best!
Oh, memories touched lightly, and lovingly savored for a long moment before receding back into our heats; silently waiting to warm another day. Thanks for the smile that graces my evening! (rated)
Geezer, thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts.
