mmmm......I can almost smell them!
Now I have to return after reading the link. Your pictures are food for the soul, and the link food for thought. Thanks for including it. I know it opened my eyes about the origins of Mothers' Day.
I find flowers only slightly less difficult to shoot than birds. Your ability to photograph white flowers without their natural reflective qualities overexposing them is quite impressive.
Nora, the fragrance of the lilacs yesterday was almost overwhelming and it's great that it came through in the photos. Glad you liked the click-through, too. Thank you for coming by.

Rich, thanks. It takes patience and the willingness to take your time. And just FYI I didn't have to photoshop these at all. I was fortunate to have beautiful subjects.

Happy Mothers' Day!
A nice and well-integrated haiku. I especially like that first and the penultimate photos, by the way.

The ones after the first have a kind of topiary quality to them and I find myself trying to describe them. Well, the first looks like a petri dish in which you've suspended flowers in water artificially. The second is like worn, sponge-textured sandstone that's had a plant make a home in its grooves. The third is like a bell, or perhaps like one of those bits of seed you get for birds (but that is ultimately eaten by squirrels or bears) that is in the shape of a bell but is made of seed. The fourth and fifth look kind of like an animal—a dog, perhaps. The sixth is like sea anemone in its soft texture moving with undersea currents—it has that flexible look. The last one has some gestalt imagery to it, too, and I'm having more trouble placing it... a fox? a dog with floppy ears that have been thrown suddenly upward? the wings of a hawk as it takes off or lands?
Coyote this is lovely-the photos as well as the haiku.
Thanks for this and I am now going out to pick a bouquet for myself and my partner who is also a mom.
(Jane you are welcome to some of ours-help yourself!)

Beautiflly done COS, and a Happy Mother's Day to you!
My Mom had a huge lilac bush, right outside my bedroom window. At this time of year, that scent meant that Winter was long gone! Beautiful!
Lovely! My very favorite flower of my childhood. I have big bouquets all over the house.
Thank you!!!
Kent, thanks for the haiku kudos! Those white lilacs reminded me of my dad's white standard poodle, fluffy and soft.

jane, I love big bunches of lilacs too. They're just the best. Happy mothers' day to you!

ladyfarmer, thank you and thanks for sharing with jane. Hope you and your partner have a lovely day.

Thanks, Michael. I hope you did something special for your mom.

Zuma, I always associate lilacs with Memorial Day. In my hometown north of here they always seemed to bloom that weekend. I'd march in the parade and always came home with a sprig of lilac snapped off somewhere on the route.

Thank you, o'stephanie. I like bringing them in the house, too. Isn't the scent glorious?
Lilacs always remind me of Mom.
As a flower goes the fragrance is intoxicating.
Once I commented to Mom about the smell of Lilacs.
She said,

"Intoxicating.....hummmmm....uh-uh........A Vodka and Tonic, now that's intoxicating!!!"
Lilacs my favorite! I remember they lined a street I lived on in my college days, old historic houses on the hill in Lawrence, Ks. THey smelled so heavenly it was almost enough to make me want to skip class... but I didn't. I have a lilac of my own now but they don't grow that well here.
Beautiful!
Hi Gary, I agree with you that the fragrance is intoxicating, but doesn't resemble vodka and tonic at all!

Brenda, when I looked out the windows of my junior high forty plus years ago at the end of May the bushes just under them were heavy with purple blossoms. But I never cut class either. So happy you like these!
I love the lilacs. Amazing.
Thanks, Lorraine. These photos were taken with you in mind! I only wish I could attach a file filled with their scent.
ooo, beautiful pictures :)
Thank you, Bryn. How was your concert?
Wow, very nice photographs. They look really pretty. Thanks for bringing them to us!
Thank you, Victor. They'll be blooming up your way soon, I trust.
thanks for the beauty, Coyote, and Happy Mom Day
I just found this post. While I don't miss living in Pennsylvania, I do miss lilacs and forsythia. Thanks for the glimpse.
Roy, thank you as well. It was a quiet, peaceful day. Just what this mom ordered.

Julie, I'm happy to bring a little pleasant nostalgia to you. Thanks for the comment.
