Monadnock Region Foliage Peaks!

Rate: 17 Flag

Fall foliage color is at its peak on this Columbus Day Weekend in New Hampshire. Here in the Monadnock Region in the southwestern part of the state, we have amazing displays of gold, orange, red and yellow.

Thank goodness I didn't crash into any stalled leaf peepers while I was on this photo jaunt.

Ferns in my backyard take on a range of delicate color all their own
and keep their distinctive shapes.

These are nice, Style. I particularly like that "Pallette along the Highway" one. Each kind of tree has its own distinct color, it was once noted, so that God can take inventory.
Thanks, Rich. The color was amazing when I took these, especially when the sun lit up the trees like some kind of inner light. My, aren't we philosophical for a Monday morning!
You have great eye for this kind of thing. I think these really capture the New England foliage experience.
Thanks, Kent. I think if New England ever wanted an ambassador I'd leap at the chance to apply for the job. I love sharing my surroundings with people.
gorgeous... reminds me of here...
You have ferns in your back yard!!! COOL!!! Beautiful. I can hear that water run, too.
Stunning beauty! Fall foliage is one of the main things I miss about living up north. Thanks to you and the others for posting these. They are magnificent!
Hey Brian, thanks. Unlike you, we haven't had snow yet, but we did get a frost last night.

Yeah, Brenda, there's a big patch of ferns where most people would put a garden. They're beautiful all times of the year. Well, maybe not under snow in winter.

Michael, it's disconcerting for me when I visit parts of the country that don't have the turn of seasons like we do. The change is good for us, I think.
By the way, everybody, I have electricians in my house this morning updating recepticles that are original, i.e. they're from the 1950s. So if I'm not on the ball responding to you, it's because I'm offline so they don't get bit!
Great pictures--and thank you for noticing, and capturing for us, the lovely ferns! That's an unusual sight.
Just gorgeous. You have such a good eye for capturing the sense of things.
Thank you, Pilgrim. The ferns are fascinating. Some get brown like these and others, usually under the forest canopy get almost white.

Owl, thank you kindly. I'm happy that I can share what I see.
Thanks for the waterfall. :-D

Great color in them thar hills. We are just now starting to lose it, the breezy rainy weather is beginning to take its toll on the leaves in central Vermont. I was out Sunday with my daughter taking pics, and it was still nice but you could see spots where the trees that had already turned were getting pretty bare.

Lovely shots, Nancy. Looks like we won't be getting down to West Leb until this coming weekend, I have to go by the boss's schedule. Will let you know if it seems imminent. :-D

Rated.
Hey, Bill! Yeah, seems like the color is already starting to get a bit dull in places. There's a maple in my neighbor's backyard that just keeps getting more beautiful, though. And yes, please let me know when you're venturing outta the hinterlands!
thanks, Coyote, these are lovely and bring back childhood memories
You know, Roy, I was just thinking that yesterday when I got home and was walking through the first of the leaves to fall that it was like being a child again crunching through the colorful leaves. Thanks for joining me!
Gorgeous!!! I particularly liked the ferns...I took a couple shots of ours, but they are not peaking yet. I will keep up on it.

We have a beautiful lookout which I am doing a Panoramic shot of weekly. It will be great if I am able to upload - we will see.

Thanks to you and Bill for the inspiration ... East to West Fall is my favorite time of year.
Thanks, Kate. If I can today (trying to guess the electrians' schedule is not easy) I'll post the other fern photos I have. They're really quite different from the trees in the way they turn color.
Gorgeous! I know the Monadnock region well, and you've captured it at it's best. My uncle just emailed me some pics he took over the weekend and it looks like, from the angle of Mt. Monadnock shown here, you and he were shooting from the same general area. Talk about a small world!
Lovely views. Thanks for sharing.
Just breathtaking. Thank you.
