Gary Justis is a frequent reporter on the travels and philosophy of Kal-El, known on this planet as Superman. I was surprised when I looked out my door last night after turning on the porch light in anticipation of trick-or-treaters and saw Kal-El striding toward me.

It turns out that one of Superman's the powers is the ability to revel in the small joys of childhood, much like his friend, Gary Justis. With that in mind, Kal-El adopted the visage of a much younger version of himself and joined in the happy tradition of trick-or-treating.

As he got closer, I could sense Kal-El's excitement, tempered by his need to keep his super powers hidden for this one evening. His smaller size allowed him to blend in with the children making the rounds of my neighborhood. I think the anonymity must have been comforting to him. For those of you who may not know, even Clark Kent is bothered by paparazzi these days.

I was happy to welcome him to my home and have him sleep over. We had blueberry pancakes (turns out that Kal-El is quite a chef as well as an expert in the use of shiny beaded accessories) for breakfast this morning. The pancakes were complemented by a red lollipop. Then, as suddenly as he arrived last night, he was out the door and in flight, on his way to fighting for truth, justice and the American way.

Zuma, apparently the super secret is to measure the flour with your hands. Thank you!
Mother, thanks. That's what I think, too!
Priceless! Able to leap tall pancakes in a single bound!
Michael, thank you, yeah, he did quite a number on the pancakes especially in the dough-mixing stage.
Thanks, mginmn, he's got quite a talent there, doesn't he.
Happy Halloweeen,
Marcela
Kate, he has no guile and in fact his limited vocabulary contains the word "shiny" as a noun.
(((Gary))) Words fail me. You've said it all.
Marcela, thank you! We had a happy time and not too much candy. Kal-El was sweet enough.
He looks a bit tired here. Must have been flying a bit too long.
