Live from FOB Grizzly

Rate: 9 Flag

This is a tour of where the son of a good friend of mine is stationed in Iraq.

Please remember while you're watching it that our armed forces are made up of individuals. Regardless of political affiliation, race or religion, they are deployed to serve you. Keep them in your thoughts.

I will, Coyote...thank you for the reminder....xox
Thank you, Coyote, for remembering them and reminding us!
Thank you, Coyote. I appreciate your post. My son is the one who is at FOB Grizzly (FOB means Forward Operating Base). His name is David and this is his third tour in Iraq. He's a son, a brother, a husband and a father.
My friend is in touch with her son via Facebook and the occasional YouTube video. I don't know how she stands him being in harm's way.
I've always said, I don't care what they look like, who they pray to, who they vote for or who they sleep with, anyone who puts themselves in the line of fire so I can sit on my butt playing on the internet is my hero.

And maybe it's just me but I don't know if I would call anywhere in Iraq "Target". Just pushing the fates with that one.
Thanks to all of you who have come by and watched the video. Send your friends. We all need reminders of the men and women who put themselves in harms way for us.
Incredible levels of organization assembled quickly no doubt. they deserve this and more...
A nice look inside a little tiny FOB in Iraq. Thanks for posting, and thanks to the Sergeant Major for a good tour.
Welcome six foot skinny. Hope things are going well for you over there!

Thanks to everyone who has come by to comment and rate. And yes, it's important to remember that when these folks come home, they still need our support and gratitude.
I beg to differ. Our armed forces are not there to serve me. They are there to serve our corporations. They are there to serve oil interests. They are there to serve the interests of the wealthy. They are not protecting my freedom. They are infringing on them because every time they kill someone over there, it pisses them off, and they want to kill us. Then we lose our freedoms by implementation of things like the Patriot Act, loss of habeas corpus, TSA security B.S. If we leave and quit killing them, they will no longer have a reason to kill us. How can people continue to sign up for the military given what we know. I know the economy sucks and there are no jobs. Our education system is broken giving young men few options. However, signing up to kill brown people in far away lands is not an option either. I bet the recruiters didn't tell them that when they get out of the military they will be left behind by there own government. Left with the haunting memories of what they did and what they saw. Broken homes, poverty, and mental anguish awaits.
What a sad pitch. This guy keeps talking about how great it is at that base. That place was very depressing. "All the comforts of home"? Where did this guy grow up? In a prison?
He's not my trooper. He's the poorly paid dupe of our aggressive idiot state.
In agreement with the last 2 posters - Come to Okinawa, where the largest concentration of the american military reside.

Watch how they live - listen to their stories. You'll hear a whole other side, and if you aren't frightened to death by who the "new american military" has become, well just sit right down and keep on watching your reality TV.
"largest concentration of the american military reside."

should be "largest concentration of the american military reside IN ASIA.
Ok, while I'm grateful for a look at how the FOB is run and our guy's conditions (but I confess, to my spoiled eyes it looks pretty grim, despite the ice cream), isn't the video sort of a perfect guide if someone wanted to do bad things on the base? And the video showed the faces of some of the local food workers. Isn't that likely to put them in danger as well?
For people who have loved ones deployed this kind of video is a part of a small amount of communication they are afforded. Please naysay all you want about the mission. I will fight to the death for your right to speak openly. But stop short at denigrating the individuals who serve.

Stop using a broad brush to paint your own version of propaganda onto the surface of the issue.
If the broad brush comment is directed at me, I strongly reject the comment. I live and interact with 50,000 of them on a daily basis.

Furthermore, if anyone thinks that they are a bunch of happy campers (with their endless stop-loss contractual, constantly shifting mission definitions, and the latest cuts in services, etc.) violations,as depicted in the propagandistic YouTube clip, they couldn't be more wrong.
Thank you Coyote for the reminder of who these men and women are. I pity and feel sorry for the few posts here that are obviously sad little people. It makes me even more supportive of those serving and even more appreciative of what I enjoy in this nation.
