Breaking News: Still Snowing in New England

Rate: 10 Flag

Yesterday I was in Scottsdale, Arizona. We knew there was a blizzard predicted to be headed for New England after it dumped snow on more unsuspecting areas of the country. Scottsdale mostly looked like this:

Thanks in no small measure to our American Airlines pilot wearing a Santa tie who I overheard in Dallas commenting to some co-workers, "Let's go, let's go," which seemed to be an exhortation to get the plane back in the air and safely to Boston when so many other flights were cancelled, we got to Boston's Logan Airport safely.

The drive home from Boston took 50% more time than usual. The roads were slippery and we were flanked by salt trucks much of the way. This morning, we woke to

notice that the snow shovels are handily on the far side of the porch so we can put off shoveling for a little while.

I find that there is something quieting about snow . . . it makes my otherwise overactive thought process slow down for awhile . . . maybe it's the perforce action of billions of tiny flakes winging through the air and landing heavily, or the knowledge that I'm going to have to take it easy for a bit . . . and snow covers a multitude of "sins," cooothing all in a pure but chilly embrace . . .
That is an amazing amount of snow. I am seriously hoping that it clears before we arrive at home. While our home is much further south than your home, I have already received pictures that show my front yard to be white instead of leaf covered.
I wish I had come home with you!
WOW - it is seriously beautiful there right now. I take it this is more snow than usual for your area?

I hope you stay warm and cozy and am thrilled you made it home safely before the snow hit. Best!
Nice photos. I posted some too.
Oh it's beautiful. Your house/yard looks like a postcard.
Quite pretty. To those from warmer climates who asked, I think of this as a very typical New England snowfall—the kind you could sometimes go a whole winter without sometimes, but also that you could see three of in a single winter another year. Sometimes if one isn't cleared before the next comes in it can pile up quite a lot.
Still waiting for a few flakes here in Denver. We have been so dry the newspaper is advising folks to water their lawns and trees. Lawns are cracking.
Hmmmm, something looks familiar about these images. That's it! SNOW!! I posted some images from Salem, MA on my blog, if you have any initiative to see some more :-)
You got a lot more snow than we did. Lucky you. ;) Actually, if I was further along in my recovery from knee surgery, I'd be envying your fine cross country ski conditions. I hope you're able to have some fun in the snow once you're done shoveling.
Anyone curious about how this happen should check out this video which someone helpfully posted recently to document the December 2010 blizzard. This really captures what it looks like as this stuff piles up. (It's a time lapse view and runs only about 40 seconds.)
Coyote, I've only just within the past few days rejoined OS after a four month absence. Only read this post yesterday having been referred to you by Kent Pitman's post on your Advent calendar work. [Kent, God bless him, is on his second valiant rescue run for my hopelessly low cybertech IQ helping me get re-established here. I would for sure not succeed without his assistance!].

I came here just now first to "add you as a favorite" and then to take long enough to write you just a _beginning_ appreciation of those of your works I've seen so far. I LOVE all the snow pictures and could write reams about that [but will spare you ;-)]. I grew up in snow country but my gypsy life has also included some wondrous encounters with coyotes I'm just dying to tell somewhere some time. Just now caught up with one my earliest OS friends, whose recent exquisitely honest post was so raw a read for me I'm reeling a bit but I'll settle down soon.

Looking forward greatly to getting to know you better!

I like the porch table under snow. Makes a pretty design with the chair. ♥
