Many people have been trying to figure out how to give writers more exposure to readers or how one gets to read good writers (and there are many) beyond the Editor's Picks and Most Highly Rated posts. Here's my hat into the ring. (See previous selections here and here.)
Each evening after dinnertime, I'll start us out with my favorite posts of the day (while a selection by the Editors is not an absolute disqualification, I'll tend to avoid them) with small descriptors. If you wish, you can go read them (and perhaps come back and make a comment). Or better still, you can make a comment about a post you liked and I'll add it to the body of the post which should grow as the evening wears on (thus the"Crawl" part of the scrawl). Here goes.
(If you like the idea, rate this post. That'll keep it on the feed, so others can read. Also might get it on Most Read, which'll get even more to read, and provide the People's Alternative to the cover.)
AttentionEarthling - Children of Gaza A poem that will move you to tears.
ePriddy- our unexpected guest Serene, beautiful image and haiku.
JRDOG - Lesbian Myths are spelled and dispelled.
davidjaku - Some More Silly Artwork for a Surreal Afternoon Silly, surreal and very inventive.
Chicago Guy - Before Obama--these guys were on a mission from God A great riff on the Blues Brothers. Read the piece and go to YouTube and feast on some clips.
MJwycha - Wrong Flag Very funny. To say more would be a spoiler.
RenaissanceLady - Christian Fish Some may not find this that funny. I did. You decide for yourself.
tyson koska - This will "probably" cause a stir Who knew those ads on the sides of buses could cause such "shock horror"?
Dyana Herron - Explaining Bipolar Disorder to my Grandparents Very well written, touching post.
Cap'n Parrotdead - Ode to an Old Bike If you liked Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of....", and even if you didn't, you should love this meditation on an old friend.
Have good reads. And please make your suggestions to add to the list.
Harry Homeless - His Immoral Affair. Very well-written, with a twist. Picked by Caveat Canem Croceum
The following picks by Cynarra Ru'aviv :
Theodora L'Engle Knight: Rant: I'm so freaking tired of Oprah. Part One This writer, new to Open Salon, is hilarious and self-deprecating. She has the unique perspective of someone who has bi-polar and agoraphobia, and her writing holds my attention right to the end of the post. This begins the story of how she got onto the Oprah show.
Proud and Progressive : The True (and Uncensored) Story of My Dad This poignant story is sad and bittersweet. The author beautifully captures the voice and emotions of her much younger self.
Tom Cordle: The Problem with Love Tom just has an interesting take on the subject of love, and his writing is imbued with humanity.
marytkelly: You Are Just Not All That Mary has such an uncommonsensical approach to things. She offers her readers pearls of wisdom, but never in a preachy way. This post tells us not to take ourselves so seriously. Mary is the kind of positive, insightful person you just know you would love and appreciate if you met her in person.
Rick McCollister : The Subaru Motel This post and others are drafts that Rick hope to make into a book. It is an autobiographical account from the perspective of having been a domestic abuser. It is honest and unflinching and told without self-pity.
Sally Swift is bitingly funny, great writing; and davidjaku is irreverent and asks pertinent questions - both are great wits and I also enjoy reading their stuff.

Being on any list that contains that ---even if it's just with a fun puff piece--is a real honor. Thank you!
