Over the weekend many friends of mine traveled to Squamish, British Columbia for our very favorite racing event. Squamish is an absolutely, stunningly, visually-orgasmic locale, in spite of the current Olympic-sized construction on the Sea-to-Sky Highway which must be navigated in order to get there.

On our semi-friendly racing email list this afternoon, an older, well-off, Northern California woman that we all know and...well...we all know her, made the comment that “Squamish has the best oval track in the US”. (FYI, the “track” is merely a lush, grassy soccer field that we borrow for the day from the thousands of geese that hang out there, but it IS wonderful.)

This person once demanded that a cashier at Tim Horton’s give her her change in US money. The kid looked at her and reminded her that she was actually not IN the US. I'm not sure she believed him.
She just returned from a vacation to Europe, probably further Bushizing our international image by demanding ice cubes and fancy ketchup with her American currency.

The following thread ensued (please note that all original misspellings are copyrighted by Buffoon Ltd. and may not be distributed):
- Friendly-neighbor-to-the-north: Except that it's not in the US...
- Duh-Merican: oh well over the boarder a bit , but to me just a quaint part of the world to the north of Washington
- Smart-ass American: Sure it is, isn't Canada the 51st state? ;) jk
- Duh-Merican: of course it is
- Less-friendly-neighbor-to-the-north: We prefer to refer to our country as Canada.
- Duh-Merican: LOL call it what you want but to me its just an extension of the US a bit further North of Washington, every time i reach the crest of Horseshoe Bey and i look out at the view i know the ride was worth it .Every time I venture to the island the ferry ride was worth every minute of the trip. I love that place just North Of Washington
- Smart-ass Canadian: And we also prefer to call that bit of Canada to the south "The Colonies".
If only they could learn to speak English correctly...
cheers,
XXX
(we won't mention their spelling)
We were actually all surprised that she did not allow her spell-checker to change Squamish to "Squeamish" like she did last year.
Perhaps Squeamish is the sister city in Mexico (aka South-southern California).

Thanks, Ryan...it's one of the few I have written from start to finish too. ;)
Just when I thought we couldn't get any dumber.
Rated.
I have never been abroad. I haven't even been to Mexico or the French side of Canada...only over here on the American side.
