I'm just going to say right now that I'm on serious pain killers and so I abdicate all responsibility regarding the creation of great prose, witty writing and my ability to spell or communicate very coherently. But today is the last day of the year and so I prop myself up and tell you all to buy your Socially Conscious Coffee online TODAY.
Vail Mountain Coffee and Tea has generously pledged to donate $1/lb of coffee sold online and the deadline is 31dec10. Click on this link and order.
For more information about SCC and their great work helping coffee harvesters and their families, read my earlier story. Click here. Harvesters are the poorest of the poor when it comes to coffee - forget about fair trade and Rainforest Alliance - which are good causes to support - and I'm asking you just to forget them for TODAY. Try this coffee - all blends contain beans from Conquista, which are from Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil. So any coffee you buy from the good people at Vail Mountain will support education, nutrition, fresh water and other community services for this community. Educafe is the first such community in the world and SCC hopes to bring their methods to other plantations around the world.
Oh, for those of you who love coffee and want to know more, there's a great new book entitled Coffee Talk by Morton Satin that will enable to amaze your family and friends with all the coffee trivia you could possibly imagine. Actually, it's a really fun book if you can get past the academic writing style.
Please pass it this along on Twitter. Copy and paste this:

At that price, you would think they could donate more than one dollar per pound.
Or if you buy more than one pound, say five pounds, shipping is zero and coffee would be $10/lb. That is a very good price for a full 16 oz, and not a 12 oz bag for $10. So I guess it's all in the way you plan to purchase. Personally, I bought coffee for myself and for others who I know will really enjoy the beans. Yum, I'm brewing some now!
