Open Call Response - 12 Irritating Things About Me

Rate: 14 Flag

1. I have a nasty tendency to notice the odd and bizarre things in life. That or I'm a magnet for the odd and bizarre. Take this for example - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/nudists-fight-for-bare-essentials-as-swingers-invade-holiday-colony-2087042.html. It contains the phrase "nudist fundamentalists". The mind boggles. And why do I have a feeling that Tink will instantly volunteer to join them??

2. The best way to make me stop dead in the street and grin like an idiot is to produce a puppy. Seriously, I turn to total mush.

3. If I can't find a place where I can buy a newspaper whenever I'm abroad I get twitchy. I have to have news or I go into withdrawal. Kathleen is well aware of this monkey on my back and gets worried when she can't see any news stands near whichever hotel we stay at.

4. If I start pulling faces then there's a good chance that someone is singing and that they're singing off-key. I'm not as good a singer as my father or my sister, but I can still tell a duff note when I hear one. String enough of them together and I want to murder the singer.

5. Although my left ear is 95% ok it still has a few quirks. Really low sounds that are inaudible to most people make me nauseous, although really high notes don't make me want to run around and bark.

6. My family is supposed to have the second sight, or at least that's what my aunts say. One of them had a conversation with her father a month after he died, although I have some doubts about this. And when my cousin was 5 or so he had a conversation with "the nice old man on the stairs", who no-one else could see. I would have thought that it would have been better to talk to Thomas the Tank Engine.

7. I've developed the tendency to wriggle the fingers of my left hand into guitar chord permutations at times of stress.

8. The incorrect use of the word 'decimate' makes me deeply irritated. It does NOT mean totally destroyed, it means losing one in ten. Grrr. Get it right!

 9. I know far too much about history, especially Roman history. In fact I could probably bore for my country on what the Romans did for us. And yes, I can quote huge chunks of The Life Of Brian.

10. I've got to get off my arse and write my book. Honestly, I really mean it this time.

11. I probably shouldn't spend so much time on World of Warcraft then, should I?

12. Last weekend I picked all seven numbers for the UK lottery. The problem was that they were on five different lines of lottery numbers. Only I could do that damn it!!!

If I could spontaneously produce puppies in the middle of the street, I'd be a gazillionaire!
Cartouche, I'd be a mega-gazillionaire!
Why would any of these things be irritating? I think most of them make perfect sense? For example:

#4-I've learned to repress that urge, mostly, out of consideration for the fact that they had the guts to sing in public, but it's also why I almost never attend a karaoke event.

#7-For me it's not guitar chords, it's piano finger excercises from piano lessons as a kid - specifically Hannon - and it's both hands. It probably doesn't look as menacing as claw-like guitar chords, though.
This one is my favorite. Funny and charming.
Owl - I think it's more a list of things that are irritating about my life. I didn't think about them that much.

Persephone - thank you!
Holy Cow! I do the piano thing too, am way too aware when people are off key (but hate autotune)and have kooky hearing.
Re: Romans - I'm newly obsessed with that age - could you reccomend some books, not too dry and maybe one literary fiction pick?
Thanks for the heads up on "decimate" - I have used it incorrectly for years. Now I'll correct people smugly, just for you!
I could try to produce puppies for you, Cymraeg, but I fear I'd then need an appointment with my Gynecologist. =o)But yeah, they're cute, fuzzy and wiggly and their little tails wag and their little tongues lick....

The thing that irritates me are the tuneless whistlers. But singing out of tune is pretty bad, I agree.
rated!
Cathy - I passed a Jack Russell puppy coming home tonight, being taken for his first walk! Very wiggly!

Aim - I've messaged you some ideas for things to read!

Shiral - tuneless whistlers should be flogged! Oh alright... told off.

Tears - some things are universal.
oooohhhhh -- a puppy! (made ya look)
Great Post, although a bit irritating. I had saw the piece about the hudists. I thought of doing a funny post about it, but how could you make it any more funny~
Try nudists and that sentence will make sense. I have got to quit doing that!
"And why do I have a feeling that Tink will instantly volunteer to join them??"

Because you know me too well!! HI!!! ;)

Puppies? YOU BASTARDS!! ~Runs off stage in tears~
llaaaaa-lllaaaalllwwwwaaaaa
are you pulling faces yet? ;)
Gabby - where???

Scanner - I read that article on the train to work yesterday morning. It provided me with my first "WTF???" moment of the day.

Tink - Hah! I knew you'd become one in an instant! Just watch out for singed fur from the explosives.

Julie - Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet list! I squeak when I see paws, drives hubs crazy! Hehehe.

-R-
So write me one correctly used sentence with decimate.
