Bio
• Professional Procrastinator - I could write the book! (if only.....) Passionate appreciator of fine crafts, typography, mid-century design, graphic design, and all things retro Lover of northern breeds of medium to large dogs, such as huskies and samoyeds. Uh, 'lover of' doesn't have QUITE the right connotation, but you know what I mean (I hope!). Strongly opinionated, independent thinker, aligned along the progressive (but who cares to be regressive, really?) left-wing spectrum... but not didactically or DOGmatically so. Eclectic tastes in music, food, art and all things cultural. One end of my soul is fed with the primitive, ethnic, raw... but my heart delights with majolica childlike joy. Lover of ideas, expression and fine writing. ENFP (Meyers-Briggs), a Type 7 (The Adventurer) or Type 4 (Individualist) on the Enneagram, and 6 of my 10 horoscope signs including my Sun Sign are Fire signs.

Dreaded 6-Letter Word

My two sisters and I have 4 first cousins, all female, on my mother's side and we are all close in age. We grew up together, doing many things together as a family, even though my sisters and I are secure in the knowledge that ours was the much more functional… Read full post »

skittish (a poem)

skittish like a colt
you express your interest (obliquely)
buried in some innocuous
turn of phrase

“Did I hear you right?”
“Yes, you did.”

you are a clown
the life of the party
saving some bit of stuff
so you can be hero of the day
saviour of the situation

but you are shy and clumsy

My Valentine's Day Hug to You All

A dear friend sent this video to me. I watched this, smiled, and watched it again. Call me a sentimental sap, but this just made me feel warm, delighted, and good all over. It's a feel good video, to be sure. But if you can't feel goodRead full post »

Obama, a Man of Faith

When I listened to Obama's eloquent speech on my computer screen (I don't own a TV), the thought that crossed my mind is "This is a man of faith, he is speaking of faith." I couldn't help but contrast that faith to his predecessor, who only claimed to be… Read full post »

SNOW NIGHT (Safe Night Off Winter streets)

I received an e-mail about this event - a safe and fun event for sex trade workers, and thought it was a brilliant idea. I want to share this idea with Open Salon members, with the… Read full post »

Baby, It's Cold Up Here

Beagle in his warm winter coat

(Although I have 1 rant and a few 'life situation: give me advice' posts, this is my first attempt at Open Salon at 'creative writing')

I am writing from the perspective of someone who has lived for most of my life in the coldest major city - I… Read full post »

I so, so, so wanted to avoid this. I thought it was over and done with. I thought, well, I've avoided commenting in the most volatile posts... and now they are abating. I thought that, after a clear call by so many clear-headed people over here to tone down the rhetoric… Read full post »

My Personal Definition of Codependence

" A codependent person is one who has let another person's behaviour affect her, and who is obsessed with controlling that person's behaviour." - Melody Beattie, "Codependent No More!"

I accept the first part of this definition. However, Melody's definition, and most of the… Read full post »

Sex Addiction, Part Deux

Some experts state that it is the addict's attitude towards the object of addiction that determines whether it is an addiction or not. My theory is, and it may have been stated by others, what addicts of various types have in common is an addiction to risky behaviour, and the thrill… Read full post »
