What He Lost

Rate: 3 Flag

He's thinking about what he lost
The day he made the worst decision of his life.
The friends who tuned away in disgust
The family that he hurt.
He's thinking about what could have been
And feeling something new. Remorse.
The people who would have stood by him
All turned and walked away.
The cell door closed and he was alone.
Truly alone, for the first time in his life.
He's thinking about how it used to be,
The walks in the woods, sunshine on his face,
The rain in his hair, the song of the birds.
He's lonely and hurting, but can't show fear.
He's surrounded by predators, all human.
He's alone, like never before, no one to turn to.
He feels no one cares.
He is wrong. There are many who care.
They are hurt by his choices and they hide
In that hurt, but somewhere, they care.
He's thinking about what he lost.
So are they.

Thank you, Harriet.
CZ you offer a perspective that only a mother could. I wish for you that more people would read this and that you have a happy day on Sunday.
