Farewell, America

Rate: 3 Flag

A once proud nation, brought to it's knees by religious zealots, hangs it's head in shame. The founding principles have been shattered, scorned and discarded, like yesterday's garbage. Hope, the bright star of the future, all but extinguished by profit mongering, greed encouraging people. And this is the price we pay for the sound of our silence, for our willingness to refrain from disturbing the ever so precious status quo. This spreading blood is the blood of the poor, the ones seeking that extinguished star, Hope. Farewell, America. You have met your end, not on the horns of an outside enemy, but on the blades of those who seek to suppress all who are different. Farewell, America, my dying rose.

You have articulated the sadness of so many of us who worked hard to get people to the polls, talked to everyone we could, stood with signs in the cold and saw the electorate send us back in time. Today was tough for a lot of people.

Rated.
I dont hear no fat lady singing, so it aint over yet.
But I disagree on your opening statement - its not religious zealots, its, as Dwight Eisenhower said, a few Texas Oil millionaires (now billionaires) who have gamed the system.
I usually agree with Tim4change, but I'm not blaming this all on billionaires. In fact, I'm willing to give those Texas oil billionaires the whole goddamned state if they'll take all those religious zealots with them. The biggest mistake this country ever made was not letting the South secede.
This is merely an interim phase. It will get a lot worse.
I'm ambivalent about whether we've seen the end, but I certainly don't think you're way out there in thinking we might have. These are tough times and remarks like this should be taken seriously by anyone who retains the illusion they are not.
I volunteered for my Congressman who lost to a tea-party-zealot. I'm glad you reminded me to write him a thank you note. I have plenty of time in the snow today.
