If you ever want to know what not to do before meeting up with someone I can give you a list. I was planning on cancelling meeting up with person #1. Plagued by a busy schedule and in-general not feeling very well this week I wanted an early night. However, I decided not, to and as I was running out the door I grabbed not my usual Claritin but a blister pack of off-brand allergy medication I had lying around.
I hadn’t taken this medication in a while but I was late and so I popped a pill in while I was walking over to meet-up with him.
The dinner was ok; it wasn’t that late but I felt a general sense of torpor and wanting to go home the whole time.
I thought maybe it was him. Maybe he was just that not exciting.
I tried to be polite, but there were times where my concentration was clearly off. For example, I forgot where he worked (even though he had just told me). I felt relieved more than anything as we were leaving. I wanted to go home and get work done.
That wasn’t to be though. I got home and promptly fell asleep around 9pm. This is unusual for me since I’m usually a night person. This morning when I woke up I was confused as to why I had fallen asleep so early. I dug into my purse and looked at the medication.
I had taken Diphenhydramine HCL. Because it had been the generic name on the package and I was in such a rush, I had taken Benadryl by accident, a drug that not only is used for cold and allergies but also as… treatment for insomnia.
There are so many reasons I wasn’t concentrating that night. I could have had ADD, depression, doing recreational drugs. He could think I was any of the above.
The truth is way more embarrassing; I don’t think I’m going to say anything.
