a valentine for the stressed-out human

Rate: 5 Flag

Dear Stressed Out Human,

why must you keep fearing the worst?

in all this time, when has the worst happened?

know when?

never!

not once, through decades and years and months and weeks and hours, thousands of hours spent worrying, has the worst happened!

when's the last time you died?  never!

you haven't even been homeless!

not gone bald, developed a giant goiter, nor burned down the house.

the car drives straight, and the tires dont blow.

sure, the heart breaks, but when's the last time you didn't like what you found better than what you lost?

never!  that's right!

so please,

chill the fuck out!

life is short, you got that much right!  if you have to pretend you are at a party all the time, being your damn best most charming and life-loving self, then pretend away

cause being alive IS a party, when you are as lucky as you!

for fucking fuck's sake, you exhaust yourself, and why?

christ, you haven't even lost power in the past umpteen weatherocalypses!

haven't missed a single glass of water, or had to have dirty hands.

quit letting your flawed friends drive you crazy.  they are flawed humans, just like you, so take it easy on them, show a little mercy.

and show some on yourself, too.

and the kid.

and any new boys or girls loitering around out there in the world.  they are mere humans too.

go read a book, a book you already know you love.

go AFK, watch downton abbey, eat some crap food or some good food, whichever.

just calm down already.

fuck.

jesus christ, already.

everything bad that ever happened to anybody ever is NOT  just waiting for the right moment to happen to you, or those you love.

okay?

okay then.

god.

As someone who took 1/2 of a Lorazapam a few hours ago, I can say "Yeah, chill out! Today is a perfectly bearable day!"
I will admit that having bronchitis and being unable to sleep are not the end of the world, especially as I get paid sick time, but, I really really really want to sleep. Well, and I am seeing the very first episode of Sliders ever, which I've never seen before, and I wouldn't have if I'd been asleep. Okay, you're right. Silver linings everywhere.

caroline - its such good stuff!

tink - YAY!!!! you are here!!! next time i flounce? instead of wearing a flounce dress, i'm gonna find flounced UNDIES!!

phyllis - there ARE silver linings everywhere, but man, not being able to sleep IS a deplorable situation, innit?

hi algis - thank YOU!
You got the point across pretty well. The cursing seemed to both hinder and help the poem at the same time. I actually have had a few major setbacks, like not enough to eat, losing family members, and once set the basement of a rented house on fire while tuning my motorcycle. Partially bald too. But you are so right, we get past everything that happens, and I'll have to say that ditching a negative attitude for a positive one makes life more satisfying!
hi gary - the swearing is just like in my real life - it both helps me, and hinders me. as for balding men, thats a different animal altogether - i happen to love bald and balding men. nerds too. whenever i like someone new those are the first two questions my family will ask me - is he a nerd? is he bald? the answer is almost always yes. i have lost family members too (my nephew last year, being far and away away the worst), but generally - ALL this time i spend worrying is just foolish, and i need to cut it out! glad you liked this piece. maybe i will try to make it a theme.
