Bio
(aka Josephine Elizabeth Ortez, Josie Ortez) I am 61 years young, a performance artist, writer and painter (oils) I live with my Dalmatian doggie 3 cats and 2 goldfish. I am happy despite my best efforts to the contrary. I am of Native American, Mexican, German, Irish English ethnicity. A DAKINI is a semi wrathful spirit woman from the Tibetan Buddhism tradition who manifests in dreams, visions and during meditation. She is the Goddess of Life's turning points, serving as instigator, inspirer, messenger and even trickster. She transmutes suffering into enlightened awareness. She is often depicted as a young naked figure in dancing pose often holding a skull cup of the Elixir of Life in one hand and a curved knife in the other. She may wear a garland of human skulls, her hair is wild and hangs down her back. She dances on top of a corpse, representing her mastery over ego and ignorance. MAY ALL BEINGS BE HAPPY!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Rate: 22 Flag

In honor of this Earth Day 2009 I give two offerings to you, you sacred and blessed OS people. May our Beautiful Planet Earth always be bountiful and green. May we always honor her and ALL her children: two legged, four legged, multi-legged and all in between and around.

"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. The lyrics : "Bright Blessed days, Dark Sacred Nights" sums it up for me.

The next is in honor of Great Mother Goddess TARA (=TERRA=Earth)

TARA is known and the Mother of Liberation, regarded as a Boddisattva of compassion and action.  She originated millions of years ago as the Princess Yeshe Dawa, her name meaning "Moon of Primordial Awareness"
Due to her enlightened activities Princess Dawa was approached by monks who suggested to her that in her next lifetime she be reborn into a male body in order to progress further. She declined, stating that it made no difference what gender one was and resolved to remain in the body of a woman until all beings are enlightened.

It's nice to think of things on a purely spiritual level, and to forget about the political system and the state of our crumbling empire, our failing economy, and our savaged planet. I am sad to hear that the monks, whom are allegedly enlightened themselves, would suggest Yeshe Dawa would be more enlightened had she been a man, and presumably somewhat more patriarchal than the mother of liberation with her more matrilineal philosophy. I think she's got a long wait, but she's on the right track.
Thank you for the Louis Armstrong video...His smile when he sings the refrain is marvelous! I love the song and it made my as always. We in India have so many stories from our Jatakas about man and the earth and animals . The epics Ramayana and Mahabharata have brought the forests and animals into focus and our entire culture remains intertwined with nature as do most older cultures.
Brought memories back.................
good morning...what a great way to start the day!
Thank you for such a positive and beautiful message. I will enjoy the spring beauty today just a little bit more because of your post.
Thanks you Dakini Dancer ~ beauty, beauty, beauty :)
Thanks Dakini - I needed that.
Wishing you a green Earth Day DD!! Great selections that I can play all day as my wanders from work to OS.
May the Blessing Be......
I had never heard of TARA but i love the story, she will stay a woman until all being are enlightened, that's cool. I listened to the chant and it was very soothing. very interesting DD
Loka samasta sukhino bhavantu-- may all beings everywhere be happy and free.
Happy earth day to you, dd. And thanks for helping to increase the peace!
Dynomyte: as the Buddhists say, if your feet are on the right path, keep walking!

Traveller1: I love watching Armstrong's face, it is so lively-I'm glad I brought back memories for you.

Trig: It's a GOOD day for you!

JKBrady: you are welcome

MaryT: You always brighten my day, I'm happy to return the favor.

Mother: There is beauty all around us.

dcvdickens: I happy to have given you something.

Grif: Maybe it's a good day to let your mind wander.

Gary: Many blessings to you always.

Ariana: I love the chant too, it is so gentle.

dharma: Thank you.
a beautiful post Josie, as beautiful as you. What a gift you are to us here on OS...thanks
Praise to Princess Dawa! Praise to you for this lovely post! Louis Armstrong. Wasn't it nice to be on the same planet with him? This is such a super earth. The gravity thing is a nice touch. All of, all of it, spectacular.
"The planet is some kind of organized intelligence. It's very different from us. It's had 5- or 6-billion years to create a slow moving mind that is made of oceans, and rivers, and rainforests, and glaciers. It's becoming aware of us, as we are becoming aware of it, strangely enough.

"Two less likely members of a relationship can hardly be imagined -- the technological apes and the dreaming planet. And yet, because the life of each depends on the other, [we have] a feeling towards this immense, strange, wise, old, neutral, weird thing, and it is trying to figure out why its dreams are so tormented and why everything is out of balance." - Terence McKenna
Have a great Earth Day, Dakini. Love the Louie Armstrong. He was a favorite of mine when I was young. Thanks for this post.

Monte
Beautiful. You KNOW I love Louis and that song in particular.
Happy Earth Day
xoxoxoxoxoxox
bbd: that's high praise indeed coming from one who regularly
graces us with his excellent photography. Thank you.

Robin: Yeshe Dawa's name meaning "Moon of Primordial Awareness" thrills me to my very core.

Monsieur: I love Terrence McKenna and the plants he honored.
I am seeking in my own way to help get things into balance on our
dear Planet Earth. It's all taking on a life of it's own, regardless of
who's in power. Mother Nature bats last as they say.

Monte: I am so glad you stopped by. Armstrong was such a sweet
spiritual man, just like you.

Kind of Blue: Yes, I was thinking about you when I was searching
on Youtube for a proper video.XOXOXOXOX right back at you!
Happy Green eggs and ham right back at ya! I had a nice big green salad for lunch to celebrate this important day...followed by a slice of homemade apple pie (I did not make it). I am going to make some peanut butter cookies with my grandson when he wakes from his nap, so does that count?
Cheers for a great post, Louis Armstrong and Tara! Rated with greenery!
Thank you, kind soul.
Most excellent and Happy Earth day to you in return. I try to be kind to all creatures great and small, but when they attack my tomatoes.......Well that means war!
Happy Earth Day to you as well.......

And a beautiful post!
Happy Earth Day, dancer, blessed be
Yay!

Pawed for Greenyness!
tara was the name of my eight year old cousin who died many years ago. I love the video. Now I'm going to think about her on earth day.

and thanks for the names of the books about Tibet, dakinidancer. I'm going to have to check those out.
Just Cathy: Now I'm hungry again. You SO know how to celebrate!

Ablonde: you, dear one, are the one who pointed me to the TARA
videos on YouTube. Thank you.

Michael: That creature you offed on your tomato plant is now one
of your familiars. Deal with it.

Tinkerertink69: Thank you, Mr 69. How hot are you? Very, it seems.

Roy: So many Blessing for us all if we would just take them.

Lady Miko: The paws have it, and so do you.

Delores: OM TARA
Sorry Josie- I'm slow as molasses some days, missed this one :(
Happy Belated Earthday to you and blessings to all living (and nonliving) things!
The sun is shining here and I'm off to go dig in the dirt with my dad :) family & dirt, it doesn't get much better than that. (even though we probably will be grousing at each other before the first hour is out)
how glorious - thank you
I'm a couple of days late, but I enjoyed your post a lot. Even with the current focus on torture and the economy, the greatest problems facing us are those which we think of on Earth Day: over-population, demise of biodiversity and loss of species, climate change, loss of habitat and deforestation, and depletion of the oceans. Thanks for reminding us! Rated
