According to my ever-useful wall calendar (which has a bird watching theme), it's Labour Day in Queensland, Australia today! Hurrah! To celebrate, here are some photos I took of the 2005 Brisbane Labour Day parade I happened upon when I was in Australia. It was notably more politically-oriented than America's take on Labor [sic] Day parades...instead of floats and firetrucks, there were bagpipe-playing unions! The highlight was when a communist society tried to get me to buy raffle tickets. In hindsight, I can't believe I passed up such a golden opportunity...how many people can honestly say that they've purchased raffle tickets to support communism?
