Paul Revere Is Riding for Big Bird!
By Daniel Rigney
If old Paul Revere were alive today, I like to think he’d be riding for Big Bird.
You’ve probably seen the letter written by an 8-year-old Alabama girl, Cecilia Crawford, urging Americans to come to the rescue of PBS funding of children’s programming, and to save Big Bird, the lovable Sesame Street icon whose been teaching core values like kindness and fairness for as long as we and our twenty-something kids can remember.
If Romney and the Republicans cut off Big Bird, what will they cut off next? Just wondering.
That’s why I hope modern-day Paul Reveres – like you? – will ride (Big Bird himself would probably tweet on Twitter) and say in your own words, and from your own heart, that you want to save the funding that makes Sesame Street and so many other fine public-spirited programs possible.
If we are to save Big Bird, and other worthy public programs, we have a lot of work to do between now and November.
