The fake news just gets weirder and weirder as we Americans approach our electoral Halloween season.

Cartoonist Brian McFadden, in his Sunday New York Times comic strip (8/28/2012), pictures a right-winger on Halloween night giving out trick-or-treat vouchers that kids “can use to buy candy on the open market.”

For some on the right, voucherization (along with tax cuts) is the solution to every problem, from Medicare costs to education. Why not, then, voucherize Halloween candy as well, as a way to address the issue of handouts to the undeserving young?

Don't snicker. Similar candy-coupon approaches to the provision of healthcare to an "undeserving old" are just an election away.

If you live in a Far Right house and would like to participate in this year’s “Halloween Candy Reform” movement, just print and clip the bottom half of this post and tape it to your door on the hallowed eve of all saints. This will help assure that no unsaintly souls come to your house looking for handouts that night...

…  least of all those millions of kids dressed up in hilariously homemade and hastily improvised Big Bird costumes, accompanied by their grandparents on pre-voucherized Medicare!
