Bio
In this writing workshop and citizen's blog I'm exploring various short forms, often from a satiric angle. My interests include politics, culture and the human comedy; old and new media; social theory and urban ethnography; the commercialization, corporatization and tabloidization of everything; sustainability; Unitarianism (UU); coffee; and writing (sorry, I mean providing content). Corporations of the Future

Rate: 8 Flag

By Daniel Rigney

Gazing into my crystal screen, I’m getting a sharp image of the future of American corporate life in the year 2030. I see vast business empires, and even entire industries mutating, hybridizing and merging to create new capitalist life forms beyond anything we can imagine today.

In one hypothetical universe, these are the twenty largest corporations in the United States in the year 2030:

1.       1. GoogleGov

2.       2. ExxonSachs

3.       3. Fox Mindcasting

4.       4. e-Motors

5.       5. Canada

6.       6. Beyond Methane

7.       7. 3DXerox (“Printing Self-replicating Robots since 2020”)

8.       8. Chinamerica

9.       9. First Digital Bitbank

10.   10. Solar Access

11.   11. Central Cooling

12.   12. Texas, Inc.

13.   13. MallMart

14.   14. AppleBoeing

15.   15. Bieber Enterprises

16.   16. Randy’s Reproductive Services

17.   17. N-Dimensional Games

18.   18. SimusexSolutions

19.   19. McPrison Home Systems

20.    20. Kafka-Orwell (“The Surveillance People”)

What emerging post-industrial industries am I failing to foresee? Virtual foods? Artificial emotion? Military nanobot swarms? Pharmafarms?  Who knows?

This is just my own 2030 vision. What’s yours?

How about Apocalypse Now,custom design architects for survival?
Your a good visionary. Who would want to survive though? Survival would kind of be nightmarish if you didi not have the seeds, water and climate. I recommend every company that we had back in the mid seventies reopen and start manufactoring again. All that stuff at the dollar stores that we used to make. That is the only way to keep this country rolling is through only buying American made products.
You know about 10 years ago in India an Indian said to me the Americans are foolish people. Why I asked? because only an idiot gets rid of any kind of manufactoring from there country. Thats what folks across the country rely on to move forward and prosper. Even at a slow pace. Now soon we shall have to sell the crutches in order to make ends meet and it will all have been our own greedy fault. I say admit to your failure and bring back what you gave away to China you big companies. There has to be a way to have a full scale manufacturing again in an environmentally friendly manner. What made us great once must be regained through a policy of quasi isolationism until we can rebuild our working mechanism through bring back manufacturing.
Sounds like a bunch of Oxymoron's & a lot of Doo-do doo-do, Doo-do-doo-dos! Don't scare me like that, Dan! R
By the way, I should have mentioned, this was very clever.
PharmaAir -- so we can all breathe the dosages approved by the government.
Dan, really appreciate your sensibility and speculation!!!

GE, Newscorp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS.

In 1983 90% of the media was controlled by 50 companies.

In 2011 90% of the media is controlled by 6 companies.

232 executives control the information diet of 277 million Americans.

1 media exec to 850,000 subscribers.

PROPAGANDA. It is like us being goldfish in a bowl drawing in the non-stop propaganda like water that flows through the fish gills. Can the fish identify and be conscious of the water? Are we aware of the constant flow of propaganda into our consciousnesses?

best, libby
Sunshine Herbs Inc. would be a nice one to have on the top ten.

3D Printer Heaven could be possible too.

There is always hope.

I'm gratified by this outpouring of creative commentary. Thanks Tom, jmac, Algis, Marilyn, old new lefty, Libby, Zanelle and Steve! There's a lot to think about here, and not all of it is humorous. Fasten your seatbelts. The time machine is moving us forward, for better or worse.

3D potatoes? I think I've seen these. Are they brown and rounded and kind of starchy? With a few good potato printers we could feed the world. Thanks.
