''GRAND ILLUSIONS: A Christmas Poem for 2010''
- by Daniel Halevi Bloom (1949-2032_
Gather round my friends, it's time
I've just about reached the end o' the line
The ride's been good, wonderfull, great!
and while it's time, it's not too late
to tell you all, with all my heart:
...no regrets," je ne regrette rien"
and when I go's just a matter of when
My days are numbered, my heart's in a stent
If I was Catholic, I'd be preparing for Lent
But I was aborn of a Burning Bush
Nothing sacred, just a slap on the tush
and out i came in the Jewish way
spin your dreidels: "aleph, gimmel, vuv, hay"
My llife's been good, wonderFULL, yes, great
I just wish that the world was less FULL of hate
I missed the Great Wars, One and Two
But I was alive for Vietnam, and you know, who knew?
How evil men are, sick at heart
To sit up planning to tear whole countries apart!
Afganistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq
Has it come to this, jus attack after attack?
I'm almost glad to being going soon
Fly me to Jupiter, to Mars, to the Moon
I've seen enough of this vale of tears
It's take a toll on my tally of years
Soon I'll be 70, 80, then gone!
The next generation's coming out on the lawn
To spell with their bodies what we've klnown for too long
Peace on Earth, boys! peace for the girls, too!
I was born and I'll die a universal Jew
What I mean by that I think you know
It's one big family, one big show
One people, one race, the humanity, the humanity!
We need to put a lid on Limbaugh and Hannity
They're ruining the discourse that made America great
They're filling it now with stockings of hate
From Fox News to Sarah Palin's dysfluent brain
We're headed down a very wrong-headed lane
(driving most folks, I think, insane).....
It's time to wake up, America, and face who you are
...You once were a beacon, to all, from afar
But now the tables're turned and China's the star
Who ya gonna call when the curtain comes down
On all that you built with muscle and brawn?
America! America! It's never too late
To wake from this nightmare of Glenn Beck and his hate
and turn youir destiny back into "Great"
There's time to do it, though I won't be here
I'm headed toward death without one ounce of fear
Because I know in my heart.... that I never was here
{All is Illusion, the Big bang and all
Our DNA comes calling, winter spring and fall
We're creatures of Nature, we breed as we will
7 billion's too many for one Earth to mill)
[And the climate's a'burning, a warning for all
If we don't stop C02 emissions soon-- the gall! the gall!]
So do what you can to stop CO2
Do what you can to save what's dear to you
Sure, today's sunny, blue skies and clear
But the end of Humanity's drawing very very near
OK, laugh! OK, mock me! call me crazy, insane!
In 500 years, you'll understand better this game
I speak out to warn you, with heartfelt ''cri d'coeur''
It's human to dream, and it's human to err.....
stop global warming NOW, as soon as you can
before it's too late to stop the climate chaos fan
For the end of history will be the end of a dream
And I think you all know just what I mean
Do nothing, and it's over, is that what you want?
Morano and Mockton and their denialist cant?
They'll lead you to ruin, rain chaos on Earth
Good men, but clueless, don't know know their own worth!
They'd rather go down with the ship as it founders at berth
From Tony Watts to that reckless Rush Limbaugh
Time to stop the corporate drumming at the denialist pow-wow
The fate of the species -- ours! -- lies at the heart of this battle
Who's side are you on, are you sheep and mere cattle?
No, no, arise, you who value life!
and dream of a world beyond partisan strife
Let me just tell you one thing 'bout climate change
if we're not careful, there'll be no "home on the range"
[Not to mention, no room at the Inn...
Yes, I'm talking Christmas here, for those who worship Him!]
###
[Farewell coda:]
Amen. God bless!
I'm outta here soon.
I loved every minute, yup, me, Danny Bloom.
nine-teen forty-nine to two-thousand thirty-two...
and you? and you? and you? and you?
