Oprah has selected COLUMBINE for her "Summer Reading List." It's the cover story of the July O Magazine (hitting newstands soon), and the cover story right now on Oprah.com.
We gave her exclusive rights to an excerpt--the first chapter--now on Oprah.com. Her site also features new Book Club Discussion Questions for COLUMBINE.
They gave it a terrific review. A taste:
. . . Dave Cullen's spectacularly gripping account of the Colorado school shooting that shocked America a decade ago. But Cullen's chilling narrative is too vital to miss, as are his myth-busting revelations.
Thanks, Oprah.

I know people have very mixed opinions on Oprah, but I think she has done tremendous things for books and reading in America.
(And despite an outcome I didn't like, she and her staff were really impressive to work with this spring. That is one classy operation.)
You can discuss any of her 25 books of summer. That is just getting started today, with just a few topics so far. Anyone want to add a topic for COLUMBINE? You have to be a member. (You can join for free.) I'm not sure what the best topic would be.

FYI: If you have not heard, the producers informed us they don't ever plan to show the Columbine episode we taped in April. I owe you all a little more on that, and the story of how I got the news, which I'll post soon.
Thanks for all the good wishes on that. I've mostly put it behind me, which is part of why I haven't said much. You can't win 'em all.

She has a lot of moms, who are a natural audience for the book, but many seem afraid it's going to be too sad/painful. (I get tons of email and user reviews about that.)
We've gotten great word of mouth from readers telling people it's not what you think, and this review addresses that head on. Hopefully it will help.
I agree with you concerning Oprah's positive influence on encouraging readership and promoting new authors and older works as well.
Again, Congrats!
I'll check out her site and click, natch.

That's wonderful news. I know being selected by Oprah can do great things for sales.
I loved the book...despite crying through most of it. I want to say that I'm a cryer. Hallmark commercials can make me cry. I didn't think the book was too sad/painful to read though. Honest.
BTW I just saw a rerun of The Closer from last season that was a Columine inspired episode where they debunked some of the myths.
In the time it took me to respond to Sheldon, three more comments appeared.
This is nice. I'm prolly not supposed to say this out loud, but I think I finally hit the post partum stage this week, all of a sudden. It was too crazy to hit me before. The O boost helped my spirits a bit, but the outpouring of love here and on facebook since I posted a few minutes ago is what really just made my heart swell up. Thanks. It means the world to me.
Who would’ve thought that actress from The Color Purple would one day command a position of multi-industry power – from publishing to health & medicine. Amazing.
I'm not surprised that you were impressed by her staff, Oprah figured out a long time ago that hiring top people and paying them very well is a no-fail investment.
Hoping that you'll experience the Oprah effect in a big way.
This is big! Look what happened to the sales of "The Corrections" when the author didn't want his book on the list.. Oprah is HUGE!
Start looking at beach houses or ski cabins ;0)
In Oz,I've been put on a waiting list for your book.
When I finally do get it,I'd like to send it to you,for signing please.
