My living room is nearly done--supposedly

Rate: 4 Flag
We'll see. I tacked on that 'supposedly,' because I imagine I'll change it eight or nine hundred more times. But it's finally feeling complete.

This my first NYC apartment space that I actually created. (The sublet was furnished, and I just moved in there with a couple suitcases.) This place I picked out myself in Hell's Kitchen, and started with almost nothing, except the Moroccan rugs and albums I kept stored in Denver.

It could use a painting or two or even a print, but close. I added a few of the plants and the album covers this weekend:

The bottom left looks really busy, but that's because of the weird angle and the plants too dark to show up well, because of all the window pouring in the opposite window.

Here's the same room, from the right side, instead of the left:

And here from the reverse angle, from the kitchen:

The office is coming around, too, but it's not quite ready for showing yet.

And the bedroom is pulling up the rear, with almost up. That "almost" is only as of noon. I pounded in some nails to hang a column of ballcaps, taped up a favorite Calvin & Hobbes clipping that used to be on my fridge, and got a picture of all my nieces and nephews into a frame. But it needs work. Soon.

Meanwhile, I asked friends on my facebook page if anyone could ID all six albums. That would be hard enough without the dark, fuzzy photo, so here they are closer up:

Anyone? We want name of the artist, and the album. Six of my favorites--though I picked them out of a mix of love for the artist/album and the visual sense. (Eg, that was my third favorite WZ album, but the most visually striking, by far. So it's standing in for all his work in my heart.)

Dave, the apt. is looking great! That looks like a wonderful haven in the heart of the city. I could ID two albums due to the large type on the covers: Neil Young and Rickie Lee Jones.
P.S. Dave, take a look in your OS mailbox for a PM from me.
thanks. yeah, a couple were gimmies on the artists.
des, i don't use that box, as it's overwhelmed with spam. can you email me
nice. looks so not-NY except the brick wall (which is excellent) opposite the kitchen. thanks for the peek. :)
thanks candace. that's really interesting. what makes it look very non-NY?

i'm not sure if that's good or bad. i guess i don't want my place to look like everyone else's nyc apt. (even if it does have all the same ikea furniture as a zillion other places.)

it does feel cozy and davelike to me.
Love the album covers, Dave, but got nothing. Very nice, cozy man cave there in NYC!
it *is* cozy but in a very clean way. so many apts back there are either total hard-edge modern or old fussy antique. i haven't seen light oak door mouldings and light wood floors back there much, and you're lucky to have so much natural light. hard to come by in the city.
ah, thanks, candace. yeah, i hate stripped down modern, and also fussy antique.

the light is amazing, which was a key to why i chose it. and that's the room with the northern exposure. my office has two six-foot-high south-facing windows. my writing desk is set right between them, facing them. it's REALLY bright.

it's a weird-shaped building that i'm at the edge of, where it gets really thin, so i actually have windows facing north, south and west. and the living room looks out over a community garden, so i'm set way back from the street.

and i love the brick. i really love the place.

Now this is my kind of Living room. Thanks for sharing. I also have others kinds too.
thanks. i appreciate that. i'm loving it.
I have that Rickie Lee Jones Album. I saw her on SNL and was blown away . . . That is a very comfy apt. for NY City..... congrats.
thanks, midwest. i love my little place.

i first saw her on SNL (in 79?) too, and was just amazed. i went to Woodfield Mall (was the store called MusicLand?) the very next day and got the album. it's still one of my faves.
